Financial Accountant

Profile of Organization

Habitat for Humanity Edmonton is a registered charity and a fast paced, growing organization, with offices located in north Edmonton. Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Summary

Compensation: Competitive including a 3% company funded RRSP contribution and paid benefits

Group benefits: Available upon completion of 3 month probation period

Vacation: 3 weeks

Direct supervisor: Controller

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Key responsibilities

The main responsibility of the position is to manage, in close partnership with our family services collection staff, the accounting requirements of billing and collecting on our extensive mortgage portfolio, which includes allocations for taxes and insurance. Other accounting tasks will be assigned which may fluctuate according to need. Potential examples of these tasks are:

• Annual update/review of mortgage income, property taxes and insurance

• Complete mortgage set up in the accounting system, as well as mortgage conversions and buybacks/eviction calculations

• Bank reconciliations

• Ensuring mortgage policies are adhered to and any exceptions to policy are formally documented and approved

• Reconciling/Managing Cash Suspense Account

• Ad hoc reporting as required and other duties as assigned

Competencies Technical

• 3 years of direct experience in an accounting environment

• Preference will be given to candidates with Great Plains software

• Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals (debit/credit) and the relationship between subledgers and the general ledger.

• Strong intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills are required

• Competency in Microsoft Word and Outlook

• Preference given to candidates with some formal accounting training
