"She pushed away from the computer and twirled on her chair. `Hundreds of us--all the shadow children I could track down--are going to march on the Government in protest. We'll go right to the president's house. We won't leave them alone until they give us the same rights everybody else has.'"

This connects to the theme because Jen doesn't want to hide anymore from the Government and as a result, she is convincing other children like her to come out of hiding and fight for their rights. "The Hundred Poems [...] this poem is not one of them. She took a great risk hiding this paper, and my grandfather and grandmother took a great risk keeping it. What poems could be worth losing everything for?"

My Reactions/Thoughts/Connections This shows...This is significant because...This means...This connects to the theme because... This connects to the theme because Cassia starts to wonder why her grandparents would break such an important rule about only keeping items chosen by the Society. Her grandparents purposely broke the law to ensure that future generations, especially Cassia, will be able to analyze and interpret a powerful poem that the government did not want the people to have access to.
