Dear Guilford County families and community members,

Thank you for taking time to learn more about our progress in Guilford County Schools. This site provides important data related to state tests and other measures of achievement from the 2018-19 school year.

For the first time in nearly a decade, Guilford County Schools' elementary and middle school students have improved performance on state tests in every subject and at every grade level. Nearly three-quarters of GCS schools met or exceeded growth in 2019, mirroring the state. A special congratulations goes to Southwest Elementary for having the highest elementary growth index in the state.

We also maintained a high graduation rate of 89.1 percent. In 2019, eighteen schools graduated more than 90 percent of students within four years, including 10 schools that graduated 100 percent of students. The district has cut the graduation rate gap between students of color and their peers in half during the past 10 years.

I am proud of the successes we've seen in the past year. I know that our challenges are great, and we still have work to be done. But I hope you can see the progress we have made as a district and know that we will continue to transform learning and life outcomes for our students. Thank you for all you do for the students of Guilford County.

For children,

Sharon L. Contreras, PhD Superintendent, Guilford County Schools
