Development of both basic and comprehensive musicianship will be emphasized through a wide repertoire of guitar literature, transcriptions, and arrangements. Public musical performances will be expected. COURSE OVERVIEW:I Introduction to your instrument: Instrument care, left hand technique, picking technique, characteristic tone quality, awareness of the characteristics of musical sound, language of music, reading and writingII Performing: First position, rhythms, tuningIII Notation: Reading musical notation, tablature (tabs)IV Ear Training: Ear training, transcription, analysisV Composition: Composition, arranging, evaluating using a giver criteria Course Materials: (Required for class everyday)Composition Book/SourcebookPencilMusic portfolioIB/MYP ARTS:Welcome to the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)! Students will be differentiated according to individual/group goals. CLOSINGThe closing will capture the essence of the learning that was done by the students during the class period. This may include an exit ticket, summarizing learning event, or post assessment.Home Learning is assigned daily.Assessments of Student LearningSummative Assessments: This is the formal assessment for your grade. This is where you can demonstrate what you know and what you can do.Quarterly/Final Exam AssessmentsQuarter and final examinations will be administered at the end of each marking. Each examination will include a short-answer component, extended essay construction, and performance element.Formative Assessments: Through the use of brief assessments and playing tests, students will be evaluated regularly for progress. The most important formative assessments are performances. Concert and festival participation, as well as periodic in-class recitals will weigh heavier than other formative assessments (see below).Homework: Home learning assignments are assigned daily to 1) Promote the attainment of positive work habits and study skills, 2) Practice material and skills already taught, 3) Prepare for upcoming lessons, 4) Study for upcoming assessments, and/or 5) Extend understanding of concepts.Late & make up work:Students who turn in late work will be deducted 1 percentage point for each day that it is late.ALL work MUST be turned in two weeks before the end of each grading periodAttendance and Punctuality: Attendance and punctuality are required for every class for every student. If students are absent or late without a valid excuse and do not complete a compensatory make up time, it will lower their grades.(3 tardies = 1 excused absence)4 unexcused absences = lowered 1 grade5 unexcused absences = lowered 2 grades6 unexcused absences = lowered 3 grades7 unexcused absences = automatic failureThis applies to each semester marking period. The same policy applies to being late to class. Parent Conferences will be required after 3 days of unexcused absences in one quarter. Persistent attendance problems can result in referral to a school administrator for disciplinary action. Students who miss school will be held accountable for recovering their absences via after school, Saturday school and restitutionAcademic Integrity:In order to promote the pursuit of academic excellence and learning, Anne Arundel County Public Schools expects its students to conform to specific standards of academic integrity.
