Course Description:
The AP Spanish Language Course is a challenging and demanding course designed to be roughly equivalent to a mid-advanced level college Spanish course. This course will focus on grammar, composition, and conversation, as well as test-taking skills leading to preparation for the AP Spanish Language Examination. Students taking this course will continue to develop their proficiency in the language skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural knowledge. It is assumed that the AP Spanish student has retained vocabulary from previous Spanish courses and has a clear understanding of grammatical and syntactical structures. The AP Spanish student will be held to strict performance standards. The student should be self-motivated, self-disciplined and willing to dedicate the time necessary to develop language proficiency.
Course Objectives:
This course, emphasizing the use of Spanish for active communication at all times, has the following objectives:
1. The ability to comprehend both formal and informal Spanish;
2. The acquisition of vocabulary and a grasp of structure to allow easy, accurate reading of newspaper and magazine articles as well as modern literature without the use of a dictionary;
3. The ability to compose expository passages;
4. The ability to express ideas orally with accuracy and fluency.
5. The ability to increase one’s level of speaking, listening, reading in Spanish.
The AP examination attempts to evaluate levels of performance in the use of the Spanish language, both in understanding written and Spoken Spanish and in writing and speaking with ease in correct and idiomatic Spanish.

This allocation corresponds to colleges’ emphasis on reading and writing in their advanced courses. This also reflects the need for the AP Spanish language course to involve active and rigorous study and use of communication skills at all times.

AP course policy.
*Also please note that every grade is very important in this class. Failure to complete assignments will reflect not only on your performance on the AP Examination, but also on your class performance and grade.

Monday, May 20th: Final Writing (Email) and Speaking Exam (Simulated Conversation)
Retake Policies for AP Spanish
Emails that count as quizzes: Students will have up to 1 week to rewrite these essays. The higher of the two grades will be placed in the gradebook. Because emails are timed, they must be rewritten in school (either after school, or during PRIDE).
Formal Essays that count as Tests: Students have up to 1 week to fill out an error chart AND rewrite their essay. 10 points will be added to the original grade.
Grammar/Unit Tests:
Tests may not be corrected.
Grammar Quizzes: Students can correct grammar quizzes to redeem points on their original grade.
Graded Speaking Assignments (Classwork or Quizzes): Students CAN NOT retake these assignments.
Homework: No extension will be provided for scheduled Wednesday AP Workbook assignments and no late homework assignments will be accepted (it’s a ZERO).
Projects: Projects may not be redone.
