Mathematics – Energy and Motion Social Studies – American Spirit

Background and Purpose:

Walt Disney’s Theme Park, in Orlando, Florida, enhances their amusement rides with educational programs to capture the imagination and creativity of children. The Disney Youth Education Series programs are accredited by the Northwest Accreditation Commission, and aligned with National Standards. The Y.E.S program allows the students a behind the scene academic exposure to various studies incorporated with the Disney World Experience.

Energy and Waves-Physics Lab: explores the concept of mechanics at theme park attractions. This program offers hands-on examination and activities in discovering the laws of physics. Students will examine the role of physics as they study speed, velocity, acceleration, centripetal force, hydraulics, pneumatics and transformation of energy. Students will use models of roller coasters to discover the geometric process of indirect measurement, and to calculate centripetal force. Photo-Storytelling: introduces students to creating a story with pictures using their cellphones, tablets or digital camera. American Spirit: takes the students back in time to rediscover the history of America with Geography, Culture and Government.

Georgia Performance Standards:

S8P2: Students will be familiar with the forms and transformations of energy

S8P3: Students will investigate the relationship between force, mass, and the motion of objects.

S8P5: Students will recognize gravity, electricity, and magnetism as major kinds of forces acting in nature.

MCC9: Students will experiment with transformations in the plane.

SS8H2 – Students will analyze the role of Georgia in the American Revolutionary and Civil War Eras

ELAGSE7W3 – Students will write narratives to develop real or imaginary experiences or events.

Field Trip Arrangements There are Only 80 available seats for students

Transportation: Elite Motor Coach = $115 roundtrip/person

Hotel: Embassy Suites at Lake Buena Vista; 8100 Lake St. Orlando, Fl 32836

Suites sleep 4 students for $45/night or $90 for the trip

YES Program: $31/day or $62 for the trip (includes the lessons and guides)

Disney Park Hopper Ticket: $242 = 3 Day ticket to multiple parks

Food: Breakfast daily is included with hotel price…. Cook to order

Lunch choices: $15/day at the theme park (prepaid with ticket)

Dinner choices: $15/day at the theme park (prepaid with ticket)

Attire: School shirts (t-shirts with CHMS one for each day at the park) 2 for $20

*Note: Students who prepay for their meals will receive a wristband that will allow them access to various eateries throughout the Disney Property.

We are requesting support/donations for food items to be sold throughout.

Food items include: Hot Dogs, Hot Dog buns, Variety Chips, Drinks, and Big Texas Cinnabuns

Parent Meetings will be announced in the upcoming semester to finalize payments, room assignments, needed materials, daily agenda, chaperones and any other concerns.

DCSS Code of Conduct must be adhered to throughout the school year; students who are planning on attending this trip must uphold all school rules and expectations. Students who receive consequences: ISS, OSS, Tribunal Hearings, 2 or more silent lunches, lack of attendance, and excessive tardies will NOT be able to attend this trip without clearance from 7th Grade Administrator Dr. Hamilton-Collins.
