Blacksmiths

Voice January 2019As we begin a new year let us look back and give a big thank you to our past President and Board members. Looking to the future we have a new President and all new Board, please help them in any way that you can and give them some time to get used to the new position. We are always looking for people to host meetings. Look over the list of items needed for the tool box, which will be drawn for later this year, and pick an item to make for it. Never hurts to have more than one of each item.It is also time to update your membership, family membership is $25/year. Once I get the forms set up in word I will send them out separately along with along with ABANA membership applications and T-Shirt order forms. A special thank you to Jay’s daughter and friends, who served our meal of chili and drinks. There were 16 members present and one guest, Hete Heter, who joined today!Dale Custer announced that the Girl Scout Camp out of Booneville requested BOA’s help in basic training for troop leaders and adult mentors on March 9, 2019 in conjunction with our monthly meeting. Dale asked for 5-6 volunteers to teach simple projects approximately one hour in length that the trainees could rotate through, building skills and basic techniques that they could then share with their troop members. Volunteers and their suggested projects are as follows: Dale CusterBottle OpenerBryan ParsonsSteak TurnerJay SandersBlow Pipe (for fire starting)Jimmy OwenCandle HolderSonny and Judy SartwellProject to be determinedDale Custer announced annual DUES ARE DUE. $25Discussion regarding timely reporting of chapter minutes to BOA Newsletter Editor Jimmy Owen followed. The goal stated was for chapter meeting minutes to be forwarded to the Editor within 3 days after each meeting and the newsletter published through e-mail within 7-10 days after chapter minutes are received. Hard copies will still be available for those members who do not have internet accounts. It was also suggested that once a year a hard copy newsletter could be published and sent to all past, present, and future members to encourage membership. Also suggested to boost meeting attendance, was a monthly door prize for example: Harbor Freight gift card. Bob Lock, seconded by Jimmy Owen, moved that the club award a door prize at the next meeting. Motion carried.Bryan Parsons volunteered to purchase the first door prize to be awarded in January. Some discussion arose regarding meeting host’s meal responsibility. It is quite a responsibility if 40 people show up! It was decided that the host could choose to provide meal and drinks, choose not to provide meal and drinks, declare pot luck or have members bring their own meal. The host will decide and the minutes prior will reflect their decision. It’s a big enough responsibility just opening your shop and home up to a bunch of smokey ol’ blacksmiths! The January 12, 2019 meeting will be held at Kevin King’s forge: 175 East Cowan Road, Fayetteville AR, 72701.
