Pistol PracticeItemNotesPistol case with trigger lock or barrel/receiver lock for transport. Your pistol may have come with a case. If not, you can purchase one or make one. If no case, use a gym bag or packReceiver flag (in chamber) good safety item to haveCleaning rod, brush and oil, patches and ragsMake sure it fits your caliber pistolOil; recommend Break Free or good quality gun lubricant oil. As a reminder:Inspect and Pack your gear a few days in advance of a trip to the range. Use a checklist for all itemsClean your weapons and lubricate them before you go to the range. Same for magazinesInspect each item and make sure it is clean and it worksThink about where you are going, bring the right gear for the locationEnsure you have the location address in your phone GPS or can find it (if you ae not familiar with the location) if you are driving by yourselfHave all phone numbers available- team captain, other shooters, the facility you are going to visit. Get a good night’s sleep the night before, and eat/drink sensibly. Don’t go shooting if you are ill or hung over. Prior to going on the range, do simple stretching exercises to limber up and relaxGet to the range in sufficient time to park, unpack your gear, set up and be ready to practice or compete at the designated time. For pistol:Practice your shooting stance at home a few times during the week, get use to holding the pistol at arm’s length and sight in on a target on the wall. Work on eye/pistol alignment with the sights, and practice breathingIf dry firing the pistol, ensure that it is unloaded, or purchase dry-fire dummy rounds to protect the firing pinFor riflePractice your positons at home for several minutes a day for a few days prior to the range. This will limber you up and you can get used to being in the positions. Remember the snapping in rules from the range!Get used to the sling set up for prone, kneeling and offhand positionsPractice breathing and trigger squeeze while working on sight alignment ................
