Service: Provides outpatient counseling for those who have been raped.

Accredited as child advocacy center.

No fee.

Will return Nelson County residents to counselors who practice

in Nelson County and will see the resident free of charge. This

is a non-profit organization funded by federal, state, grants so

that they can offer their services at no cost.

Also presents the Via Colori Festival annually as a fundraiser.

This is a modern day expression of a centuries-old art form where

more than 50 artists gather to create their art directly on the pavement.

It is a celebration of creativity. All proceeds go to the Advocacy

& Support Center for the assistance of those in distress.

Service: Has several programs to assist those with fixed incomes,

low incomes, etc. in getting hearing aids as reduced price.

“Hear Now” - application process whereby qualified persons

receive refurbished hearing aids at $100.00 for each one.

Monies must be sent at time of application with no refund.

Hearing tests are billed to insurance. Medicare pays for one

hearing test in a lifetime. KATLC is a state-run program

which assists people who are on disability by paying for

both test and hearing aids. Care Credit is a finance company

that will grant an 18 month loan with no interest for the

purchase of hearing aids - anything over 18 months is at 11%

interest. Vocational Rehabilitation will pay all the cost if the

person is working and needs hearing aids in order to continue

to work. This is also a state-run program.

annual golf scramble fundraiser. This is a nonprofit

organization. Individuals have to be homeless and residents

of Nelson County. Accessed through Bardstown Housing

at the Bardstown Lanes. Children are treated to a free weekend

at Green River camp twice a year, to horseback riding, movies,

Service: This is a family camp program offered by Hosparus

Counseling Center. Held at Loucon Training and

Retreat Center near Leitchfield, Ky., this is a week end

program for families and children who are grieving the

loss of a family member. A first of its kind in Kentucky,

it combines traditional camp with grief education and

unique workshops to help families deal with the loss.

Applications can be obtained on line. There is a fee of

$150/couple. It runs from Friday evening after dinner and

ends Sunday afternoon. Normally held in October. There are

grants available to assist with the cost if needed.

HUD Apartments

HUD subsidized apartments (10 units in Bardstown) for those

diagnosed with severe mental illness but are able to live inde-

Offers individual, family, and group therapy, drug and alcohol

counseling, and marital counseling. It is fee-based with sliding

Multidisciplinary team approach. Nurse practitioner is

a State Program for payment of services. Must be active

in therapy. Child is referred to this program and must be

accepted through a governing agency (LIAC - Local

Interagency Council).

1. Agriculture & Natural Resources

This section deals with assisting the local farmers and

cattle farmers with issues related to their livelihood.

It encompasses soil tests (free), shared cost in soil

erosion and water quality programs, genetics improve-

ments and cattle handling facilities program; a shared

cost (50/50) related to insemination and raising cattle.

Among other programs offered are pesticide training,

crop disaster, livestock compensation, and environmental

quality incentive, and tobacco programs as well. The

Extension Office provides educational programs for beef,

swine, and grain producers.

2. Family & Consumer Science

This section works to improve the quality of life for both

the individual and the family. It focuses on economics,

social, and physical well-being. It specializes in projects

that affect the quality of life for Kentucky. There is an

extensive homemaker club network involving eight

different groups each of which is very active in programs

that strengthen the family life in Nelson County. These

clubs then reach out to support other facets of the ex-

tended community.

3. 4-H Youth Development

Judy Creech, Agent

This section deals with the Youth of the community. Using

the 4-H motto of Head, Heart, Hand, and Health, it strives

to assist the youth with clearer thinking, greater loyalty,

larger service, and better living for the club, the community,

the country, and the world. To do this, they involve the youth

in a wide variety of programs and contests. Some of these

include: poetry contests, poster contests, good record keeping,

and outings throughout the year. There are classes in health

and safety issues, CPR, babysitting, First Aid, water safety,

and bike safety. A 4-H camp is offered which is a week long.

A Kentucky 4-H Summit which is a three day event for 6th-8th

grade is also offered with the focus of developing good lead-

ership skills. Major fundraiser: Candy sale.

4. Horticulture

This section focuses on both the practical and the pretty aspects

of gardening. It involves training master gardeners who will, in

turn, teach others in the art and science of gardening. This section

sponsors the Blooming Bardstown Garden Tour, the

Downtown Bardstown Beautification Project, the

Bardstown Farmers Market. It also deals with educating

the public about home insect control, lawn care, the

production of home vegetables and fruit, tree and shrub

information. Sponsors the Kentucky Wine Festival which

highlights the young wine and grape growing industry in

Kentucky.

5. Community & Economic Development

fer to Hospice care, but physician must sign order. Services

camping experience at Camp Cedarmore in Shelby County,

Ky. for any child between the ages of 6 - 17 who has or ever

has had a diagnosis of cancer. Application can be obtained

on line. There is public speaking offered to inform the public

about this organization. There is a fundraiser once a year, a

golf tournament which helps to fund this project. Donations

are always accepted. A list of donated items needed is avail-

able on the website as well. This is a free service.

necessary. This is a privately funded organization, a project of

The Kentucky Optometric Association since 1985. Recipients

are linked to volunteer optometrists in their area. This is a

collaborative effort involving the Kentucky Optometric Association,

optical laboratories, frame and lens manufacturers and surgical

centers.

sponsors this festival each year. This is a weekend event which

normally ends with the Rotary Club hosting a wine and cheese

Two groups are eligible:

1) Family caregivers who provide unpaid care to

individuals over 60.

2) Grandparents or other relatives aged 60 or older who

are the primary caregivers of related children 18 years

old and under.

Homecare

A variety of programs to assist the elderly within the home.

Must call for more complete information. Some of these

may be fee based. The services include:

Adult Day Care-

Hodgenville In-Home respite for those with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Assessment -

Interview with nurse or social worker to determine needs and best way to provide it.

Case Management -

Develop care plans to provide services Maintain regular contact.

To help identify older Kentuckians affected by disaster and to assist them.

Escort -

Personal transportation/accompaniment of individuals who have no other means of transportation to medical and other essential services.

24 hour care for several days in a facility when the regular caregiver is unable to provide care.

Home Delivered Meals -

Meals delivered in home to homebound. Done through Postal Service.

Home Management -

Housekeeping, meal preparation, shopping

Home Repair -

Minor home adaptations (safety railings). May include emergency response systems at a greatly reduced rate ($18/month after $20

processing fee), safety inspections, and installation of smoke alarms.

Personal Care Attendant Program -

Services for persons 18 and older who have lost the use of two or more limbs.

Personal Care Service -

Bathing, feeding, hair and skin care, dressing

Planning & Administration -

Development of plan to meet the needs of the most frail and impaired elderly.

Respite Services -

Care for individual when the caregiver is away from the home temporarily.

Repair Affair -

Coalition with Bank One and other agencies who volunteer to provide home repairs for the low-income elderly homeowners.

: Service:  Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Acute Inpatient Programs for children, adolescents and adults.  The Footsteps program is for children ages 6 – 12.  The Adolescent program is for ages 12 – 17 and the Adult programs are for ages 18 and above.  Programs include medical detox, Emotions Anonymous, Collaborative Problem Solving, Recovery Dynamics and Seven Challenges.  All programs are highly structured and are overseen by either a psychiatrist or addictionologist.  The Willows Program is for adolescent females ages 9 -17 who are sexually reactive.  The length of stay in this program is 6 – 9 months.  Lincoln Trail is available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week to inquire about services or to make a referral.  Most commercial insurances, Medicaid, Medicare and Tricare are accepted.

LTBHS also has an outpatient clinic in Radcliff for children, adolescents and adults needing traditional outpatient services for psychiatric issues.  Along with therapy services provided by Licensed Therapists, medication management is also available through our psychiatrist.

CASA is a nonprofit organization, funded by United Way

of Nelson County and assists children between the ages of

birth to 18. Volunteers who are appointed to the case must

be 21, a legal resident of Nelson County, and go through both

a strict screening process and training. CASA’s aim is not to

remove the child from the home environment, but rather to

work in a collaborative effort with other agencies to address the

problems which have been identified in the home. CASA is

affiliated with Kentucky State CASA and is in total compliance

with the National CASA and Kentucky State CASA..

informational, referral. There is some case management

involved, and patient advocacy. This is done within three

divisions: Health related, Community Education, and

1. Women’s, Infants, & Children (WIC)

Income based program for pregnant women, post partum

women and children up to the age of 5.

Provides various food items and formulas.

Provides lead screening.

2. The HANDS Program

This is for a first time parent and is extensive training

in parenting. A voluntary program designed to discuss

the various changes during pregnancy and needed re-

sources after birth. It discusses age appropriate

development up to the age of 5. This is a

supportive program. There are criteria to be

a part of it.

3. Nelson County Prescription Discount Card

One card is given per family/household which

will lend a discount to prescriptions at local

pharmacies. Must have no insurance coverage

for prescriptions.

4. Breast exams.

In some instances which fall beneath a guideline, a

free mammogram may be provided if needed.

5. Pap smears

Cancer screening done in clinic after guideline is met.

Repeat smear is done if necessary with referral if abnormal.

6. Flu Shots & pneumonia shots

Flu shots are offered once a year during the appropriate time.

There is a nominal fee for this, though Medicare pays for it.

7. Adult Immunization Clinic

Tetanus, Hepatitis B, and TB testing are offered.

8. Childhood Immunization Clinic

Most childhood immunization is done at Doctor’s offices.

tions properly. Promote forums with input on youth issues. Offer

speakers to provide information on the radical and dangerous changes

in brain chemistry in youth with substance abuse.
