1654: with Thomas Mayhew, Sr. and Philip Taber was cholsen by the town to end all controversies by the same manner and way as was done last year, only if any one of the said number be wanting, the rest are to choose another to fill up the number. Edgerton Town Records, V 1 p124.

1654: elected town clerk of Edgarton. After his term of two years ended, he was succeeded by his son John.

5 June 1655: elected Assistant to Thomas Mayhew, Sr., Town Magistrate of Edgartown.

1657: still owned land in Saybrook and Hart ford when in a list of those who have rights in the undivided lands is the name of Thomas Birchard. (Feb 1671: son-in-law Bartholomew Barnard had these rights by gift or purchase.)

1659: wrote from Martha’s Vineyard to “Mr. Elliott to give Securities to Ye Court” for him. Suffolk County, Massachusetts Probate Records.

30 Dec 1661: "Goodman Burchard" was enrolled in the train band of Edgarton. (Of the twenty-seven men enrolled, he was the only “Goodman”.)

10 July 1662: sold, as son’s attorney, sold son John’s house lot for him in Martins Vineyard.

15 Oct 1673: Thomas Mayhew was in control at Edgerton, but Thomas Birchard and twenty others sent a petition to the Massachusetts Colony offering the Martins Vineyard to Massachusetts. This offer was declined. Massachusetts. Archives Volume XLVIII p138. (Thomas Birchard was a “principal instigator of the Rebellion”.

9 May 1683: sold a small piece of land in the Vineyard as "late inhabitant upon the Vineyard" where he lived thirty years.
