Served as facilitator for two sessions of Jackson State University's Mississippi Urban Research Center Youth Summits. The sessions involved discussions pertaining to the effects of economics, education, health, spirituality, and family factors upon youth violence.

Research Experience

October 2008 to December 2011.

Lead researcher on an interdisciplinary faculty team seeking a large grant to study alternatives to incarceration in South Carolina (e.g., drug courts, middle courts). We have met three times and are collaborating with the Research Triangle Institute in North Carolina.

January 2006 to Summer 2011.

Co-Principal Investigator for the River Valley Meth Project: Understanding Crystal Meth Use: Community Impact and Intervention in Vulnerable Populations. One of three principal investigators who organized and supervised a research component for the River Valley Meth Project. This component utilized undergraduate students in a research class and a criminal justice class, allowing them to get hands-on experience in social science research. The results of the project were presented in a symposium which was attended by the State Drug Director.

October 2004 to August 2010.

Co-Evaluator, Pope County Methamphetamine Demonstration Project (now referred to as the River Valley Meth Project). A member of a community-wide team organized to increase the public’s awareness about the use, distribution, and manufacture of methamphetamine.

July 2005 to August 2007.

Evaluator for the Drug Court Planning Team of the 5th Judicial District of the State of Arkansas. A member of an 8-person team trained to set up and administer a drug court system in the 5th Judicial District in Arkansas.

October 2000 to May 2002.

Co-Principal Investigator, Mississippi Crime and Justice Research Unit. A member of a research team organized to conduct the evaluation of the Mississippi Drug Court Program.

April 1999 to May 2002.

Research Assistant I, Advanced Spatial Technologies for Agriculture (ASTA). A member of a research team organized to utilize GIS and spatial database technology in the visualization of the agribusiness infrastructure of Mississippi. Various maps will be developed and used for further research by ASTA colleagues at Mississippi State University.
