Objective: Expose students to poetry and provide them opportunity to experience writing poetry without heavy expectations. Provide student with choice and options in poetry selection. Consume poetry examples in small groups. Each student should have access to at least three poemsWhole class—provide instructions on Mad Libs. Partner 1 will read the prompt under the line being ‘noun, adjective, number, abstract noun, verb, etc. Partner 2 answering the prompts and Partner 1 writing in for them. After list is finished, both partners read poem together.Write reminders of parts-of-speech qualifiers on the board such as verb ending in -ing. Remind class to think of unique parts of speech and use the prompts prior to reading the entire poem to each otherPair students into partners or small groups.
