Alameda County CTKS Progress ReportThe Alameda County Early Care & Education Planning Council received the CTKS grant award from the California Department of Education at the end of March 2015. For the first funding period ending December 31, 2015, we were able to distribute $11,359.69 in reimbursements. We reimbursed eight state preschool program (CSPP) teachers and five transitional kindergarten (TK) teachers for costs associated with early childhood education (ECE) and/or child development (CD) courses, required books for ECE/CD courses, and conferences or workshops on the topic of children ages 0-5. Beginning in November 2015, we sent requests sent to each school district for a roster of TK teachers. We received the final roster in March 2016, giving us access to the email addresses of all the current TK teachers in the County. On May 5, 2016, an EdSource article was published about the CTKS program and how much money was being left on the table throughout the state. Two weeks later, we were notified of CDE’s decision to extend the grant award period to March 31, 2019. After months of planning, we opened registration for our summer TK Institute in early May 2016. Forty-seven early childhood educators attended our first annual Transitional Kindergarten?Institute on June 27-29th. The Institute was funded directly by the CTKS grant award. The cost of the Institute was approximately $26,221.TK Institute Attendees - School districts (12 out of 18 total) and number of teachers:Alameda (1 TK)New Haven (3 TK)Albany (1 TK)Oakland (15 TK, 2 K)Berkeley (4 TK, 2 CSPP)Piedmont (1 TK)Castro Valley (1 TK)Pleasanton (1 TK)Fremont (1 TK)San Leandro (5 TK)Hayward (2 TK, 2 CSPP)San Lorenzo (3 TK)We also had attendance from one local charter TK teacher and teachers from outside the County (Santa Cruz and Petaluma school districts).
