Part 6 – “Contending For YOUR Covenant”

Series Scripture:

He prayed, “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven and earth. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion. – 2 Chron. 6:14 NLT

REVIEW:

Part 1: “The Covenant Revealed”

Our relationship with God is defined by

what we know of God (revelation).

The Bible is a COVENANT document!

The New Covenant was the culmination – complete revelation and finalization of God’s covenant. It was signed, sealed and delivered in Jesus Christ. It was accomplished through the sacrificial blood of Jesus on the cross, and through his death, burial and resurrection!

1. Whether you accept Him or not, God’s covenant with man impacts every human being on this planet regardless of their race, gender, education, wealth, or RELIGION!

2. Your covenant with God is an all-inclusive matter. It covers every issue of your being… spiritually, emotionally, physically, financially – everything that concerns your life and existence.

Covenant: Suntheke vs. Diatheke

Part 2: “It’s All About The Blood”

You've got a secret weapon. It's called...A Covenant of Blood!!

God’s Blood Covenant With Abraham (Abram)

Genesis 15: God “cut” an everlasting covenant with Abram!

The Ancient Blood Covenant Ceremony

▪ The two parties gave to one another everything they had and all they represented.

▪ They were to be no longer two, but one.

▪ They exchanged their coats. This signified a mutual exchange of authority. “All that I do, all that I have is now yours.”

▪ They exchanged their weapons. “My strength is now your strength. Your enemies are now my enemies.”

▪ The “Walk of Blood.” The two parties walked through the “way of blood.” They pronounced “the blessings and curses” of the covenant.

▪ They ate a covenant meal together of bread and wine. This represented their willingness and commitment to lay down their lives for each other.

Part 3 – “(IS) God Your Provider?”

God wants to be your provider and being a tither (declaring that the first fruits of your increase) is offered to Him has been the covenant foundation of that provision since the very beginning!

God has always commanded that a portion be reserved for Himself as an act of faith and trust in His covenant…

Because we haven’t taught tithing and giving from the revelation of our covenant with God, we have severely created hardship and even poverty circumstances for ourselves!

God wants to break people free from poverty and from a poverty mentality! You’ve been born (AGAIN) into the right family, with the right Name, w/ an INHERITANCE!

Tithing is part of God’s plan to establish His covenant of blessing and provision in your life!

God loves you unconditionally, but living in the covenant blessings requires faith and obedience.

90 Day Tithing Covenant Challenge:

1) Take a step of faith and enter into a 90 Tithing Covenant with God.

Part 4 – “A Covenant of Wholeness”

Through Jesus Christ, God has extended to us a “Covenant of Wholeness.” In other words, we have a covenant right to be made whole!

7 Ways Jesus bled for you to be made whole

Part 5 – “Our Covenant of Healing”

Psalm 103 – A psalm of David (note the use of the word, “covenant.”)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.

18 To such as keep His covenant…

When it comes to healing…

we are not fighting from a place FOR our victory.

We are fighting from a place OF victory!

God has “cut” a covenant with us… through the “way of blood” (Jesus) has already made the decision for your healing!

Healing is included in our Covenant!

Isaiah 53:5

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

1 Peter 2:24

24 He personally bore our sins in His [own] body on the tree [as on an altar and offered Himself on it], that we might die (cease to exist) to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed.

You have to know your covenant! …Jesus has paid with His own blood for your sins AND for your healing.

➢ Our covenant says sickness is no more the will of God than sin is the will of God!

Part 6 – Contending For Your Covenant

Scripture: 2 Cor. 10:3 – 5

3 We are human, but we don’t wage war with human plans and methods. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not mere worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 With these weapons we destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. With these weapons we capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Our thinking and our thoughts MUST come under God’s word and a new revelation of living under our covenant!

Our relationship with God is defined by

what we know of God (revelation).

God cannot go against His word and His covenant to bless you!

Many Christians are living in disobedience or ignorance that is causing them to miss out on their covenant rights and privileges!

Our covenant relationship with God, completed and sealed in the blood of Jesus Christ, is the foundation for everything we believe... Salvation, provision, healing, deliverance and victory all rest on the platform of the covenant.

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10 – 18

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and scheming’s of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, put on and use every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 Above all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Important Observations:

• We are engaged in an active battle now. We are called to stand in our position of covenant victory that has already been established.

• All spiritual warfare waged today is victorious only on the basis of our covenant and appropriating the finished provision of the cross and Christ’s blood.

• Col. 2:15 - “…disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

We have:

A covenant of salvation…

A covenant of provision…

• Those Who Give Most Freely Live Most Fully… Giving is one of the places life comes from.

A covenant of protection…

A covenant of healing…

You contend for your covenant rights through your relationship with Jesus Christ!

It all comes from a place/position of relationship! Not formula’s; personal worthiness; or good enough deeds…

Three Essential Keys to Living in Covenant:

A. Believe it

B. Obey it

C. Receive it!

Believe:

The Bible is a COVENANT document

Don’t let the devil deceive you or talk you out of who God says you are!

Obey:

Scripture: Prov. 4:20-22

My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart .22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

It’s extremely dangerous to disobey God!

• It leads to a hardened heart

• It leads to a loss of your rights and privileges

It doesn’t matter how good your reasons are for disobeying God… Disobedience will still cost you!

Don’t play around with sin, and don’t play around with disobedience.

When the Spirit of God comes to correct you, follow His instructions―and follow them quickly. Keep your heart tender. Obey the Lord!

Receive:

You can can’t bargain, negotiate, or determine the conditions of the covenant.

Diatheke = A certain kind of covenant…

A. Suntheke = an agreement between equals…

B. Diatheke = is a covenant that is one way!

• It is based on a greater one, extending all he/she has to a lessor one who has nothing in return!

• You cannot initiate this covenant!

• All they can do is express love and gratitude!!

• All you can do is believe it; obey it; and RECEIVE IT!

Believe what God says…

Obey what God says…

Receive what God says…

Dedicate and train yourself to LIVE this way!

Communion:

A Better Covenant… / everything prior to Christ was a type and shadow of the good things to come… the complete work that would be done through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

• Atone (cover) vs. wiped away and removed!

• No curse pronounced in the New Covenant… the curse was not passed on through the cross because Jesus took the curse for us!

- We’ve been delivered from the curse

- Grace and mercy

• EVERYTHING was made complete and better in Christ!

• Generations previous to Christ could only look forward in faith to what we have now.

Scripture: John 6:48 – 53

48 Yes, I am the bread of life! 49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. 50 Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.” 52 Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked. 53 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.

Scripture: 1 Cor. 11:23 - 25

23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.”
