Professional Experience

Mobile Limb & Brace, Inc., Valdosta, Ga. & Orlando, Fl. 2001 to Present.

Founder, President and Practitioner. After the sale of Mobile Prosthetics and Orthotics in March of 2001, my wife and I incorporated a new business and located it just north of the Florida border in Valdosta, Ga. We purchased and renovated a new facility in the medical/professional district of Valdosta. Over the last eighteen months, we have developed a broad based referral network across South Georgia and North Florida. As with our old company, we are dedicated to bringing professional prosthetic and orthotic care to patients in the comfort of their own home. Now that our no-compete has expired with our old partners, we have reestablished our relationships with old referral sources in the Central Florida area. We have reoccupied and renovated our office in Orlando, Fl. The administrative office moved to Orlando in November of 2003. The laboratory returned to Orlando in June of 2004.

Mobile Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., Orlando, Fl., 1994 to 2001.

Founder, President and Practitioner. Mobile Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. was dedicated to bringing comprehensive, professional prosthetic and orthotic services to the patient in the privacy and comfort of their own home. By providing the appropriate device, properly fitted and aligned along with education and compassionate care, our goal was to restore mobility and independence to the homebound patient.

In January of 2000, we brought partners into our business. I did not take long to realize that this was a big mistake. Since we could not get rid of them, we decided to sell our interest in our company and start a new company. We sold our business in March of 2001.

NovaCare Orthotics & Prosthetics, Inc., Fredericksburg, Va., 1992 – 1994.

Staff Prosthetist and Orthotist. Duties: Patient evaluation, determination of both orthotic and prosthetic prescription, fabrication of the devices, fitting and alignment of the devices, patient education and follow-up visits. Services were rendered both in the office and out in the field. Ordered all components and supplies needed for my patients. Completed all forms and progress notes for patient charts. Assisted Mr. Mac Hanger CPO, the facility manager and clinical director, in patient care and marketing. Performed facility cleaning and maintenance as needed.

I started my contract furniture repair business again to earn extra income on the weekends.

1993 – 1994 I was a floating practitioner for Nova Care. Filling in at facilities across the country to cover vacancies or practitioners on vacation.

In October of 1994, I resigned from NovaCare to open my own practice in Central Florida.

Winter Park Orthotics & Prosthetics, Inc., Winter Park, Fl., 1991 –1992.

Intern Prosthetist and Orthotist. Upon my graduation from Florida International University, I worked as an intern at Winter Park O & P under the

supervision of Mr. Roy Scudamore, C.P. and Mr. Richard Kerns C.O. I completed the required clinical work for my certificate and then stayed on as a paid employee. I

assisted Mr. Scudamore and Mr. Kerns with patient evaluations and device fittings. I worked in the lab with the technicians fabricating the devices for the patients.

In April of 1992, I resigned from my position with Winter Park O & P to return to work with Mr. Mac Hanger in Fredericksburg, Va. He had recently sold his practice to NovaCare. They offered me almost twice the salary with a full benefits package and an exam prep/continuing education program.

Prosthetic Certificate Program, Florida International University, Miami, Fl.,

May – September 1991.

Student. While attending the prosthetic program at FIU, I started my furniture repair business up again to earn income while at school.

Mobility Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. Fredericksburg, Va. 1990 – 1991.

Apprentice Prosthetist and Orthotist. In July of 1990, I applied to Mr. Mac Hanger CPO owner of Mobility Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc. for a position as an apprentice. I spent the next ten months working along side Mr. Hanger learning the basics of O & P theory, design and fabrication. With Mr. Hangers’ assistance, I applied for and was accepted into the Prosthetic Certificate Program at Florida International University in Miami, Florida.

I continued working my furniture repair business on the weekends. I earned more money on Saturday than I did all week long at Mobility. However, Prosthetics and Orthotics was the new career I was looking for.

In May of 1990, I resigned from Mr. Hangers’ employ and departed for FIU. His assistance had been instrumental in my acceptance to the Prosthetic Program at FIU.

Hogan Enterprises, Fredericksburg, Va., 1989 – 1991.

President. I went to Virginia in the spring of 1989 to search for a career opportunity in the Northern Virginia, D.C. beltway area believing that my military experience might translate into civilian job. However, soon after my arrival in Fredericksburg, I started contracting my furniture repair skills to local furniture stores to earn an income while looking for a new career.
