| |To qualify the student must be a Florida resident for at least one year, have at least a 3.5 GPA, and must either be: |

| |A graduating high school student who has applied for admission in a post-secondary school program and who plans to enter the business|

| |A postsecondary student who has applied for admission in a postsecondary vocational/technical school, community college, or |

| |university program. The applicant must plan to enter the business profession. |

▪ Three letters of reference (from a teacher, advisor, principal, employer, program director, financial aid officer) that include knowledge of the applicant’s scholarship, leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, character and/or need should be included

FLORIDA BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS

1. The scholarship competition is limited to one applicant per school. A scholarship will be given to one high school student, and/or one vocational/technical school student, and/or one community college student. The person nominating the student must be an FBTEA member.

2. To qualify, the scholarship is available to a Florida resident of at least one year, and the applicant must either be:

a) a graduating high school senior who has been accepted to a post-secondary school program, and who plans to enter the business profession.

b) a postsecondary student who is enrolled in a postsecondary vocational/technical school, community college, or university program. The applicant must plan to enter the business profession.

3. All applications must be typed, grammatically correct, and complete for review by the Florida Business Technology Education Association Review Committee.

4. Leadership Activities—List all activities such as offices held, awards, honors, and involvement in business student organizations.

5. Community Involvement—List all contributions to the community and/or family, work and/or volunteer experience in church, synagogue, or other related activities.

6. The applicant must attach a one-page essay on, “Why I am Choosing a Business Career.” The essay must be double-spaced with a 12 pt Times New Roman format.

7. References:

• Three (3) letters from references are required.

• References must come from either a: teacher, advisor, principal, employer, director of the program or financial aid officer of the program.

• References should include individual’s knowledge of the applicant’s scholarship, leadership abilities, use of interpersonal skills, character, and/or need.

8. These papers and an official transcript should be received by May 1.

9. Florida Business Technology Education Association Scholarship winners will be chosen by an impartial committee with the final selections to be made on or before July 1 and presented at our Annual Business Meeting.

10. The student will receive the scholarship after providing FBTEA with evidence of vocational/technical center or college/university enrollment in a business curriculum—i.e. stamped registration card.

The scholarship must be used within one year of receiving the award.
