3. Catalog Description:

Highlights the best of London – one of the epicenters of theatre. Students attend five performances and participate in the backstage tours of some of London’s most prominent theaters. Students visit Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare’s birthplace), the reconstructed Globe Theatre, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, Stonehenge, the City of Bath, Warwick Castle, the British Museum, The British Library, and the Victoria and Albert Museums. Students are allotted time to explore the city on their own to pursue individual interests.

5. Learning Outcomes

knowledge and skills embodied in the program’s educational objectives.]

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:

• Evaluate and critique live theatrical performances after attending several West End productions

• Identify and describe the most important historical events affecting London’s history by visiting museums, historical landmarks, and other culturally relevant sites

• Outline the historical background and development of English Theatre

6. Planned Sequence of Learning Activities

[These must be designed to help students achieve the learning outcomes.]

Will depend upon performance date availability. This course will be two weeks in length and arranged through Global Studies.

• Attend five professionally mounted theatre productions in the West End of London

• Visit historical sites that are highly relevant to understanding the history of England (Westminster Abbey, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Stonehenge, City of Bath, Warwick Castle, The Tower of London, historically significant pubs, Covenant Garden, Big Ben/Parliament, etc.)

• Visit sites related to the evolution of the English Theatre (The Globe Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace, The Theatre Museum)
