Middle School BibleTeacher: Andrew DunksDescription: As parents, you have probably been diligent in reading stories from the Bible with your children for many years. This course is designed to take their understanding to the next level, in two important ways. One, to “connect the dots” (and fill in the gaps) of their current Biblical knowledge, and give them the “big picture” of God’s story of salvation. We will look at the history of God’s works: The creation and the fall of mankind; God’s covenant with Abraham; the Exodus and journey to the Promised Land; the rise and fall of Israel as a nation; their prophets’ message of deliverance fulfilled in the coming of Jesus; His ministry, death and resurrection; the spread of the church after the coming of the Holy Spirit; His second coming in glory and how to live so as to be prepared to meet Him. Two, to give them an appreciation of the cultural context of the Biblical revelation. It’s hard to grasp the full meaning of the Bible unless you know something about the original audiences to which the scriptures were given. For example, you may know the creation story in Genesis 1-2, but do you know how amazingly hopeful it is compared to the Babylonian or Egyptian creation accounts, which most people in the Biblical era accepted? Or perhaps you know that the Scribes and Pharisees, but do you know what these people believed, or why they were so widely admired among the Jews, or why exactly they believed it was their religious duty to kill Jesus? Materials Needed: The Learning Bible – Contemporary English Version, available at , A notebook and writing implementsCopy Fee: TBATuition: $370 per year, $37 per monthHS BibleTeacher: Jerry VarnerDescription: In this class designed especially for high schoolers, students will have ample opportunity to begin, hone, and strengthen their Bible reading and study skills. We will take a survey of the entire Bible, seeing how each book fits into the tapestry of God’s inspired Word. As we do, we will also learn how to move from simply reading to studying the Bible. We’ll consider critical components such as context, historical background, and intended audience among other factors that deepen Biblical understanding. This course is not an entirely exhaustive “end-all” of being a student of Scripture, but it will hopefully give students a piqued interest and desire to continue on to be lifelong student of the life-shaping truths of God’s Word!Text: The Bible (any preferred translation is ok), Bible Basics for Everyone and Read The Bible For Life (Other readings will be online.)Tuition: $395 per year/$39.50 per monthSAT Prep (Fall or Spring semester)Teacher:??Anna Rogness Description:? As in any martial art, the disciplined mastery of techniques and the ability to out-think an opponent is more important than raw athletic ability. In fact, fencing appeals to many youths who might not otherwise be interested in athletics.Though not yet as popular as Olympic-style “sport” fencing, many have found classical fencing to be a more satisfying experience. It is also safer and in the long-run much less expensive than sport fencing.EQUIPMENT NEEDED:?- A fencing mask (these can be purchased through any number of online retailers, and their websites will tell you how to measure head size for proper fit). Cost is around $50 and the cheapest is perfectly safe.- A pair of thin gloves (these protect the swords from rusting due to sweat)- Loose clothing, athletic shoes of any kind except high-tops or jogging shoesYou may NOT bring your own sword. Most replica swords are designed for display only, and their blades are not tempered for flexibility and safe sparring. If any student wants to continue fencing after the course and purchase their own fencing sword, I will guide them in this.Supply Fee:??noneTuition Fee:?$445.00 per semester/$44.50 per monthDramaTeacher: Melissa Mathes?Description: This class is for 7th-12th graders with a passion for Drama.
