Xcel Energy to host public open house for proposed transmission line project

Xcel Energy is hosting an open house on December 15, 2015 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the proposed McHenry-Magic City transmission line project. A new 230 kV transmission line would run between the existing McHenry Substation near Velva and the proposed Magic City Substation located near the Minot waste water treatment facility (view map on back). The open house is an opportunity to learn more about the project, provide comments and ask questions. We will display detailed maps of the project corridor as well as have experts available who can discuss project need, siting, construction, engineering and other transmission-related issues.

Please stop by anytime to learn about the project and to provide comments. No formal presentation is scheduled. You can find more information and submit comments on transmission or by calling 1-800-238-7968.

About the project

The approximately 20-mile McHenry-Magic City project will help expand and enhance the area's transmission system and ensure electric reliability to help meet growing electricity demand. The estimated $21 million project has an in-service date of December 2018. Before the project can be built, Xcel Energy must obtain approval from the North Dakota Public Service Commission and local governments in the project area. There will be additional opportunities for public participation during these processes.
