This site offers a list of Chicago hotels. You can also search Trip Advisor and many other travel sites. Palmer House a Hiton Hotel- 1-888-225-9664 This hotel is a great option for those wanting to stay right downtown in the city and might love staying in a famous and historic hotel with 140 years of experience in Chicago in the city's Loop area. Currently operating as the Palmer House - A Hilton Hotel, it is a member of Historic Hotels of America (the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation). Close to many well known Chicago attractions. Walking distance to Millennium Park. Expect $200+, per nightPublic Chicago is in the Gold Coast – right off of the Lake and Michigan Avenue, and also offers free parking. It’s an older, smaller, and historic hotel. It’s also a manageable walk to Stacy and David’s, and about 15 minutes from The Joinery. The South Loop Hotel-- The benefit of this hotel for those who are driving is that parking is free. (Overnight parking in downtown hotels can be $40-75 per night.) However, there’s very little near the hotel – you’d have to drive, take a taxi or Uber to get anywhere; it is a good place to sleep and park. It is a 20-30 minute drive to Joinery, depending on traffic. Searching sites like Hotwire, Orbitz, or you would search for the South Loop neighborhood and your options are likely this hotel and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place. Stacy and David have a room block at the Westin River North – This is for back up and last minute plans, as you are likely to get better rates at other hotels and through Airbnb or a service like Hotwire or something similar. An option to consider is staying just outside the City. Rooms and parking tends to be cheaper, and you can have easy access to downtown, though it will be 20-45 minutes. Consider hotels around O’Hare Airport in particular, or in the northern suburb of Evanston. Stacy and David are happy to talk over the hotel options with you – just send an email or give them a call. Airbnb Option:Lisa Dietlin (Stacy’s friend) has a great townhome Airbnb that’s a short walk to the Joinery. It’s right by the elevated park—the 606—in a residential neighborhood. There are three private rooms; breakfast is included and as well as access to the entire house (including the fourth floor deck with fabulous views and seating areas). This would be great for a group of 5-7 that wouldn’t mind sharing space. Street parking is also free, and she is close enough to walk to the El to get downtown. TransportationIf you are flying into Chicago, it is not necessary to rent a car. There is direct train service from both airports to downtown and other parts of the City. You can easily get around in the City with public transportation and via Lyft, Uber, or cab. Nearest train station to Joinery is the Western Stop on the Blue Line. It is 1-1/2 blocks to the east of The Joinery. Nearest train stations to Stacy and David – Sedgwick Stop on the Brown Line, and North and Clybourn and the Red Line. Helpful Tips: SpotHero – This is an app to find cheaper parking. It’s great if you’re staying outside of downtown but want to drive into the City. Downtown parking garages can be $20-50 (or more) for the day. SpotHero is much cheaper. For those staying downtown, you might want to see if you can find 24 hour parking close to your hotel – I’ve never needed to do it, but it might be a lot cheaper than a hotel valet. – if you want to make some restaurant reservations ahead of time, this is a great way to do it. ................
