MANVEL HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS MEDICINE DEPARTMENT

Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of the Manvel High School Sports Medicine Department, I want to welcome you and your child to the 2019/2020 school year. As always, we are here to provide the best possible medical care to all MHS athletes. Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services (taping/bracing), emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic Trainers are considered experts in the treatment and care of concussions and work under the direction of a physician as prescribed by state licensure statutes. All MHS Athletic Trainers are board certified and have extensive experience in the field of sports medicine.

Alvin ISD has partnered with Houston Methodist Hospital to be the official healthcare provider for all AISD Athletics. Our team physicians are recognized as leading experts in Sports Medicine and work regularly with the Astros, Texans, Houston Ballet, NASA and Rice University.

All athletes must have a current physical on file (performed after 4/15/19) and have completed ALL online paperwork at before they are eligible to participate in ANY activity. All forms are now electronic and can be uploaded to make the process easier and provide more security for your child’s records.

The MHS Athletic Training Room is open during normal school days Monday-Friday from 6:30am-7:20am for morning treatments. If your child has sustained an injury or is ill, please have them report to the athletic training room (H118) each morning no later than 7:00am. Afternoon treatments will be held from 3:00pm-4:00pm, and the Athletic Training Room will remain open Monday-Friday until 30 min after the last game or practice on campus.

If your child is seen by a doctor for any reason, they MUST bring a note from the treating doctor allowing them to resume participation in athletics. Doctor notes need to be directly handed or emailed to the Staff Athletic Trainers or can be faxed to the MHS Athletic Training Room at 281-326-9072.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 281-245-2629. We look forward to another great year of Manvel High School Athletics! HOKA HEY!

Sincerely,

Sam Sorrell, MS, LAT, ATC Sherissa Hua, MS, LAT, ATC
