how Earth's motions cause days and years

I can use a diagram to show the position of Earth's tilt as it orbits

around the sun.

First, some background...

Earth also revolves around the sun. This takes about 365 days = 1 year

This picture shows the actual size of Earth compared to the sun:

A year is shorter on Mercury because

Mercury's orbit around the sun is smaller and

takes less time.
