March 1, 2017President Donald TrumpThe White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NWWashington, DC 20500Dear Mr. Trump,I’m a small business owner, registered Independent. Admittedly, I didn’t vote for you, though I told my husband from the moment you decided to run for office, that my bet was on you to win the Presidency. Hindsight is 20/20. I should have probably placed that bet. I’m registered Independent, sir, because I am generally fiscally conservative and socially responsible. Perhaps politically correct is the ascribed term. I live in Los Angeles. We are just a couple of degrees of separation through friends of friends, friends of friends of friends, etc. Do you know what your friends say about you Mr. President? That you don’t believe in many of the things you and the Republican party support. That you are not racist or prejudiced, that you believe in gay rights, that you could be a really great President. Perhaps you didn’t really identify with a particular party, but that you don’t really identify as Republican.I find it compelling that the definition of Republican has changed over the course of your campaign and presidency. And it hasn’t changed because of the media. It’s changed because of you and because of the people you choose to surround yourself with. I thought the Republican Party stood for States’ rights, for capitalism and being fiscally responsible. These were all characteristics that I identified with and respected. But, the party now is one of discrimination and hatred. That hatred of women, Mexicans, blacks, Muslims, and other minorities is fueled by you, and it’s difficult for me to understand why you choose to operate with that mentality. Your friends don’t understand it. I don’t understand it.Please, Mr. President, prove to me that 54% of Americans are wrong about you, that your friends are right. Show me that you care about more than appeasing the conservative Christian alternative right. Focus on the issues that Americans can all agree upon, like pharmaceutical industry reform. Start to bring this country together instead of tearing it apart. Bring relief to small business and help the lower and middle classes keep their jobs without abusing your powers. I believe that America is great. It’s a shame that you don’t. Your focus, it seems, has been on dividing the great country further in defense of yourself, not in defense of the country. Put the entire country, not just your supporters, before yourself. That is your job as a public servant, and it’s a temporary job at that. America will always have room for improvement, but we are an incredible nation. You have the ability to rise to the occasion and bring the country together. Prove me wrong, sir. Prove to me that my vote should have gone to you. Prove to me that you are the man for this job, and while you are proving it, I will continue to test you and try you as every American should, because you work for every American.Sincerely,ChristinaBurbank, CA ................
