Today students will learn about their classroom. What it means to be in a classroom and what types of things are in a classroom. Teachers will give students and parents a virtual tour of the classroom. Work with your learners in your home to designate areas at home that are similar to the classroom. For example, student cubbies are like closets or coat racks that you have at home. Music and Movement: Pretend Play: Help your learner play pretend that they are the teacher running morning circle. Help them teach you and others in the house the morning circle activities. Do a morning circle song, the colors, and letters. Blocks/building: Help learners use building blocks or recyclable materials (boxes, egg crates, plastic containers etc.) to build a classroom model that they could use to play with their toys and pretend their toys are going to school Fine Motor: Help learners work their fine motor skills using their clothing. Lay pants on a table and help learners work on pushing the button through the hole in the pants. Work on having your learners use their pincer grasps to move zippers on their backpacks. Sensory: Using play dough work on hand strengthening through rolling playdough and pushing it out and pinching it. Art: Give learners crayons, markers, pens, or pencils to draw a classroom. What do they want in their classroom? Writing: work with your learners on following directions for stopping and starting. Make a large dot or draw a star near the top of a piece of paper and another dot/star directly below. Give learner the direction to draw line down and show them where to start and stop. What are rules and who makes them? What do rules do? The rules help keep us all safe. In the classroom teachers make the rules. will review classroom rules with students. Teachers and students will play game identifying the body parts used in following the class rules. Music and Movement: Kitchen: Practice and play getting ready to eat. What are the rules we should follow before we eat to stay healthy? Washing hands. Help your little learner review handwashing.Pretend Play: Play pretend school take turns with your learner being the teacher and practicing following the rules. Science: Use a mirror to practice pointing to body parts with your learner while reviewing the rules and the body parts used to help them follow the different rules. Stand behind your child in the mirror so that they can see you and themselves then point to or move a body part so they can see it in the mirror and say “do this” once they do what you showed tell yes and we use that body part to… (ex: “do this” pointing to eyes, learner points to eyes we say “ yes good job we use our eyes to see”). Cutting: Help your learner cut out basic shapes (circles and rectangles or the stick figures they drew)Art: Work with your learner to draw paper stick figures that they can cut out and use to play school.Writing: Play “freeze” writing with your learner. Tell your learner when the music is playing, they can draw and scribble but when the music stops they freeze. Literacy: This week’s letter is /Ff/. Music and Movement: Play: Pretend to be at school and help your learners practice playing while wearing their masks. Help them pretend to wash toys after they use them to help wash the germs away and keep us healthy. Blocks/building: Help learners use building blocks or recyclable materials (boxes, egg crates, plastic containers etc.) to build a classroom model that they could use to play with their toys and pretend their toys are going to school.Fine Motor: Help learners work their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination by having them use a spoon to scoop uncooked beans, rice or other small items into a cup. Review the different activities we do throughout the day and how the rules keep us safe while we are at school?Include bus safety rules.Music and Movement: Kitchen: Practice and play getting ready to eat. What are the rules we should follow before we eat to stay healthy? Washing hands. Help your little learner review handwashing. Play pretend while practicing using forks and spoons to feed ourselves imaginary food and drinking from open cups. Pretend Play: Pretend to be taking the bus to school. Set up chairs to represent the bus put one for the bus driver and then 2 or 3 or more behind the bus driver if others at home will play too. Pretend with your learner that you are both students getting on to the bus. Greet bus driver then practice bus safety rules and sing wheels on the bus while pretending to ride to school. Science: Practice handwashing with your learner. Why do we need soap? Use something visual or sticky like paint or syrup or honey and put it on your child’s hands the go to the bathroom and show them how soap and water cleans their hands. Cutting: keep working on hand strengthening and focus on scissor hand grasp with your learner by cutting playdough. Art: Provide your learner with yellow and black crayons or markers and encourage them to draw a school bus. Writing: Play “freeze” writing with your learner.
