Human Anatomy & Physiology Unit 1 Lab ActivityHomeostasis (30pts) 1. Purpose To discover the effect that various levels of exercise have on specific body parameters. II. Hypothesis How do you predict the observed and measured parameters will change as the subject exercises? . III. Materials Watch or timer IV. Introduction Exercise causes many homeostatic factors to kick in, in an effort to maintain internal homeostasis. How exercise affects some of these homeostatic factors can be determined by measuring and observing certain parameters such as: change in skin color on hands and face perspiration level heart rate breathing rate V. Procedure In the following lab, one member of your group will exercise for 8 minutes by fast jogging in place. The parameters listed above will be recorded at rest, 2 minutes, 4 minutes, 6 minutes, 8 minutes, and 1 minute after the subject has stopped exercising. The subject should stop just long enough for the needed measurements to be recorded during the total exercising period. Each group will record their results in the table provided. As well, your report is to include a graph displaying heart rate and breathing rate. Please keep in mind that you will lose points if you do not include a title, axis labels, and an appropriate scaling.Group Member Duties:Subject (the person who exercisesBody Color ObserverPerspiration ObserverHeart Rate ObserverBreathing Rate ObserverVI. Discussion Questions: Answer these questions on your handoutWhat are the changes you observed in body color and perspiration levels in response to? How do these changes contribute to the maintenance of homeostasis? Do you think that your body temperature changes drastically when you exercise? What mechanisms are in place to help the body maintain a homeostatic temperature? Why does an increase in heart rate and breathing rate accompany exercise? By studying your parameter measurements after exercise has stopped, what conclusions can you draw about your body's ability to maintain homeostasis? VII. Observations: Fill out the table below on your handoutBody Color: Perspiration Level: *Heart Rate: (beats/min)Breathing Rate: (resp/min)Rest: 2 minutes: 4 minutes: 6 minutes: 8 minutes: 1 min after: *Perspiration Chart RatingsHands & Forehead dryForehead warm or moist/ Hands warm or moistLight moisture on forehead/Palms moistBeaded perspiration on forehead/Palms and back of hands moistRunning perspiration on forehead and neck/Palms and arms have visible perspiration ................
