Douglass Southern California Tour 2020One of the advantages of being in the Douglass Middle School Music Department revolves around our travel opportunities. Plans are being finalized for a performance tour for the Douglass Music Ensembles in Southern California. The tour details are as follows:Dates:May 14-17, 2020 (12pm Thurs. through Sun., approx. time 10pm)Departure/Return:Douglass Middle School Music BuildingDestination:Anaheim, California via Motor CoachAccommodations:Residence Inn, Garden Grove, CA/TBDTuition per Person:$750. Price subject to change due to Disney Ticket and FundraisersNumber of Days:3.5 days, 3 nightsAdmission:Disneyland & California AdventureMeals:Breakfast Provided; Lunch, Dinner & Snacks on your ownAs in previous years, the Douglass Middle School 8th grade band, choir, jazz band and orchestra have been accepted to perform at Disneyland. This trip is a recognition of the hard work the students have put in for two years, as well as a privilege. The opportunity to attend can be revoked based on grades and/or behavior. The students and chaperones will travel to Anaheim via motor coach, leaving from school grounds at noon on Thursday May 14, and returning back to school Sunday, May 17 at approximately 10pm. Students are expected to be in school the following Monday. The trip itinerary is precise, and all attendees must participate in the designated activities. Parents/Guardians traveling with elementary age children or younger would be unable to fulfill chaperone duties. Please make individual travel arrangements for your family with your travel agent, or speak to your school’s music director Mr. Coelho. Should the group fall below the minimum size, it may be necessary to change the program and/ or tuition. The Registration form and contract along with a non-refundable $100 deposit per person will be accepted through November 15, 2019. Please bring the completed Registration form, contract and non-refundable $100 deposit to Mr. Coelho in the band room of your school. Checks made to: “Middle School Music Boosters” or Cash.Fundraising: Music students participate in fundraising activities to offset the full cost of the trip. The amount of funds raised for each trip year will be applied to the full cost of the trip in order to reduce the cost for all travelers. All cost offsets will be applied to the final payment. Cancellations: Please give written notice of cancellation. All money paid, including the $100 deposit and fund-raising money is non-refundable. Mr. Coelho will be in charge along with the help of all the parent chaperones.Are there limits to what all travelers may bring? All travelers may only bring one suitcase and one carry-on bag/purse. Instruments will be loaded onto the truck along with the uniforms to be transported down. All luggage must be labeled with the traveler’s name, address & phone number. It is a good idea to mark cameras, clothing and all items with the traveler’s name. Remember, YOU must carry what YOU bring.What is the student travelers’ responsibility? Individuals are responsible for all personal items (i.e. money, clothing, cameras, etc.) at all times. Although Mr. Coelho and parent chaperones will be with the group throughout the trip, we will not be responsible for lost items. Please leave expensive jewelry, games and other valuables at home.How much spending money to bring? This is an individual decision based on each participant’s personal tastes and budget. Consider the number of meals that are not included in your trip price. Your expenses for these meals can range from $12-$15 per meal depending on your selection of meal sites. Next, think about how much money you intend to spend on souvenirs and any extra entertainment activities.What is included in the trip price? The trip price includes: All transportation, Park tickets, Concert/workshop fees, T-Shirts, Breakfast at the Hotel (it is a full breakfast spread), Hotel rooms, and the group pictures (1 formal, and 1 informal). Will family and friends at home be able to see the performances in the parks? We will have a preview concert on May 2nd at 10:00 am where Disneyland bound students will perform their concert set lists. This is a mandatory concert to all students performing at Disneyland.
