Currency Exchange Lesson PlanOverview: My colleague and I have traveled extensively, and we understand the need for students, especially those who may live or work in other countries, to be able to use currency exchange rates. In connection with her lesson on multiplying decimals, we collected different forms of currency from around the world, researched the current exchange rate, then wrote word problems using those exchange rates. Each group got to examine the currency while working on the real-world math problem.Procedure: Divide the class into small groups. Each group receives a zippy bag with 1 exchange rate word problem and the currency from that country. Students work together to solve the problem, as the teachers circulate to help. As groups finish their problem, they switch with other groups. The word problems are given in both regular and modified format for ESL or very low reading level students.Regular EdModifiedExchange rate $0.011 US = 1 KshillingThe man at the market wants to sell you some small ebony carvings for 50 Kenyan shillings.
