Dear Sorors,
Congratulations to everyone who either graduated or had a member of your family to graduate this year. Also, to the educators...WE SALUTE YOU!!!
I would also like to say congratulations to Sorors Anne W. Watts and Shirley Barlow for their recent accomplishments. Morehouse College unveiled an oil portrait of Dr. Anne W. Watts at their Baccaluareate on Saturday, May 18. The oil portrait will hang in the Hall of Honor at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel. In other news, Shirley Barlow was recently elected as the President of the National Alumni Association of Morris Brown College.
I hope you will join us this Saturday for our June Relaxer. Much planning has gone into this relaxer and we want you to enjoy the fellowship, food, and fun with Kappa Omega. Also, please feel free to dress comfortably in your Alpha Kappa Alpha attire. The details of the June Relaxer are provided in this newsletter.
We will not meet for Executive Board or Chapter meeting until September. I hope you will take this time to relax and spend quality time with your family and friends!!! We have much more work to do and remember Kappa Omega's service to all mankind is a serious matter!!! All hands on deck in the Fall!!!
We will have our Fall Retreat on Saturday, September 14, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Ivy Community Center. This retreat will be packed with important information regarding the sorority and the chapter. Please make every effort to attend.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP THROUGH TIMELESS SERVICE
Dear Sorors,
The Program Initiatives have been busy the first six months of 2013. Workshops, seminars, and volunteerism have played a vital role with Kappa Omega in providing "service to all mankind". EYL held a beautiful Mother-Daughter Tea Luncheon on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Ivy Community Center. Committee members are to be commended.
Although the summer is fast approaching, we are taking time to review, revisit, and redirect our thoughts and vision for ending 2013 on a high note!
Members of the program initiatives will be actively soliciting new members to join their committees and will not take "no" for an answer! After all, we did pledge our service...active service to Kappa Omega when we joined this great organization. We can't back out now, we just can't!!
The Anti-Basilei Council met Wednesday, May 29, 2013. It was the consensus of the group that the 2013 EYL Summit be postponed until January 2014. Kappa Omega will still be the lead chapter for this event. Our "kick-off" meeting will be at the Ivy Community Center, August 1, 2013. Sorors Sarah Williams, Tameka Dukes, and Anna Jones will be our lead contacts. We have already begun planning for this event, including assigning all 14 metro chapters to specific committees. More information with be forthcoming.
Additional topics such as Global Poverty and Health were also discussed at the meeting. Several chapters are actively engaged in service projects highlighting health issues affecting the African American Community.
"We help each other"
Sisterly,
Soror Icey L. Johnson
