UNDERSTANDING THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES

After receiving one of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, you will create a Power Point presentation that demonstrates your understanding of the history of that amendment and how it applies to your life today. This project is due January 5th and 6th 2012.

For the history of the amendment, you must include the following information:

• What is the amendment about? (This MUST be in your own words, absolutely no cutting and pasting)

• Why did we need to add this amendment to the Constitution? (talk about what was going on in the country to make us think we needed this change)

• When was the amendment ratified?

For the portion of the Power Point telling us how the amendment applies to your life today, the following must be included:

• An explanation of whether or not this amendment is still relevant today. In your explanation, you must give at least one example that highlights how it either is or is not relevant today.

Power Point slide requirements:

• Project Title Slide (1 slide) - An image that represents the amendment, the exact wording of the amendment, your name

• History Slides (Minimum 3 slides)-These slides must include at least one paragraph each and no less than 3 images total

• Is it Relevant Slides (Minimum 2 slides) - At least a paragraph per slide. The example given must have at least one image

• Bibliography Slide (Minimum 1 slide) - Must conform to MLA style citation guidelines (every single slide needs a reference. If anything is not in your own words, it must be put in quotation marks and cited so I know where the information came from) NO PLAGARISM

Your Power Point will be submitted in one of three ways:

• on a portable flash drive (thumb drive) *preferred method

• submitted through the teacher’s school computer system inbox

• via email (students must bring in a back up presentation (thumb drive) on the due date) *sometimes files do not transfer well through email so be cautious of this method*

• If your presentation was created on a Macintosh (Apple), make sure it is saved as a PowerPoint document (.ppt)

Your presentation:

As part of the total grade for this project you will present your amendment to the class beginning on Monday, January 9, 2012. Your presentation will be no less than 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes. Make sure that you plan and practice your presentation. In other words DO NOT READ your presentation. The use of props during your presentation is highly encouraged.
