Summer Week 5 (week beginning 18.5.20)right104076500Each week there will be a range of activities that I will put on the website for you to access if you wish. These activities will be similar to the sorts of things we would have been doing in school this term. There will be some resources that you can print if you are able to, but if you don’t have access to a printer then you can still use the ideas and get your child to write on any paper. I hope you enjoyed the ‘Beegu’ activities last week. This week the home learning focus will be on feelings. You can watch and listen to the story ‘The day the crayons quit’ by Drew Daywalt here: listening to the story, you might like to have a go at some of the following activities throughout the week. There is no expectation for you to do all of these, please dip in and out and complete as much as you and your child would like to. I would love to hear how you get on with these, so please feel free to drop me an email on: bumblebees@ashill.norfolk.sch.ukWriting activities – see separate ‘Feeling writing tasks’ document.Reading – Each day encourage your child to read with you. This could be a book you already have at home or an e-book from the Oxford Owl site. Most children now know many sounds and are confident in using them to sound out words and blend the sounds together to say the words. They also know quite a few tricky ‘red’ words.Sharing books and chatting about what you have read is a great way of engaging children in stories which they feel are too hard for them, and include much richer vocabulary than is contained in simpler reading books. Why not try different types of books, not just stories? You could use reading to find out facts and information about things your child is interested in, or look at joke books, comics, instruction manuals/recipes before making something. Another way of accessing free e-books online is by going to: just click on “Teacher sign in” and enter: Username:?parents@harpercollins.co.uk Password:?Parents20!?Click on “Collins Big Cat” and then select your child’s book band colour (e.g pink/red/yellow) and start reading. Maths activities – see separate ‘Addition’ and ‘Number facts’ documents. Don’t forget to use your Mathletics login to access other maths activities online. The Department for Education (Oak National Academy) has daily lessons too (link on website).Other activitiesDo you have any other books at home that talk about different feelings? Remember all feelings are all ok, but not all behaviours are ok. Twiggle says it is ok to feel angry, but it is not ok to hurt someone. Can you remember what Twiggle showed us to do if we are feeling mad or angry? You can watch the story of ‘Twiggle learns to do turtle’ here: you draw and send a hug to a special friend or family member? Can you draw a picture using your favourite colours? Can you find out your family members favourite colours? Then maybe you could draw them each a picture using their favourite colour. When you are exercising outside can you find items that match the colours from the story? A blue sky, a purple flower, a yellow sun…? You would be super lucky if you spotted a rainbow picture! Maybe you could use the colour hunt sheet below, or make your own. ................
