I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS

Purpose of This Lesson

Students will learn about different types of garbage there are and how they are sorted in Japan. Then, students will learn the rules for taking out garbage in Japan.

Teacher Instructions

1. Before class, prepare the handout and transparency.

2. Explain activity 1 using Transparency 1. Have students form groups of three. Distribute Handout 1 to each group. Have students complete activity 1 in groups. Check their answers using the transparency.

3. The same procedure for activity 2 as above, using Transparency 2 and Handout 2.

4. Show Transparency 3 to students. Explain the activity. Read the note together. Then, distribute Handout 3 to individual students. Have them complete activity 3. Check their answers using the transparency.

• ごみは燃えるごみ、燃えないごみ、資源ごみ、粗大

ごみに分けて1出してください。

• 中身2の見える袋3を使ってください。中が見えない袋で出したら、そのごみは持っていってくれません。

• 燃えるごみは火曜日と木曜日、燃えないごみと資源

ごみは金曜日に収集します4。

• ごみは収集日5の朝8時半までにごみステーションへ出してください。また、生ごみ6はカラス7にねらわれる8ので、前日9に出さないようにしてください。
