Therefore to collect a nasal swab sample, insert the sterile swab into the nostril that presents the most secretions under visual inspection. Ensure that the patient does not blow their nose prior to collecting the specimen. For optimal sample, repeat process with both nostrils with the same collection swab.?Keep the swab near the septum floor of the nose while gently pushing the swab into the posterior nasopharynx (about one inch).?Rotate the swab several times (to ensure that the swab contains cells as well as mucus)?Remove the swab from the nostril and replace in the flocked swab into the provided UT Media collection tube (pink liquid). Break the swab at the Molded Break Point. Recap the specimen container.?Label the collection container with the appropriate patient information.
