Re-affirmation of Marriage Vows

Renewal of Marriage Vows

Good morning/ afternoon everybody and welcome to ____. My name is____. I am the Deputy Superintendent Registrar and I will be leading you through this ceremony.

On ___(date)___, at ___(venue)___, ___ and ___ were joined together in marriage, publicly declaring their commitment to one another to live as husband and wife/ a married couple. That day they made a solemn and lasting promise to build a life together; and it gives me great pleasure to say that they have chosen to invite you here today to join them in celebrating their marriage, by witnessing the re-affirmation of the vows they made.

A wedding day is a joyous occasion of expectation and excitement; the beginning of a new life with hopes and well wishes for the future. But a marriage should not simply be entered into merrily, without due thought for what it means to be married. It takes courage, kindness and patience to create and uphold a loving and lasting marriage. It means respecting each other as individuals, and growing together as a couple with a continued commitment to a union built on love, trust and friendship.

___ and ___, you have already satisfied all the legal requirements for marriage, so this reaffirmation ceremony is a celebration of staying in love and of your re-dedication to being each others’ husband and wife/ husbands/ wives.

(OPTIONAL: Reading 1)

___ and ___ I am now going to ask you to renew your promises, as you look ahead to what is still to come.

Would you all please stand.

( (If exchanging rings:)

Since ancient times, the exchange of gifts has marked the sealing of a contract or bond, and the traditional symbol of a marriage has been the giving and receiving of rings. Even today, the wearing of a wedding band tells the world that you are pledged to another and that you live your life jointly with them. A ring also has a special significance in a relationship, as the circle, with neither beginning nor end, is symbolic of eternity.

I re-dedicate/ give you this ring as a symbol of my continuing love for you. Wear it always as a reminder of the love and trust we share, and my everlasting commitment to you.

( (If exchanging gifts)

Since ancient times, the exchange of gifts has marked the sealing of a contract or bond, and today ____and____ are symbolically marking this renewal of their vows by exchanging gifts. These gifts are a token of the lifelong promises they have made.

I give you this gift as a token of my continuing love for you. I pledge to share my life with you; and I promise to love you for the rest of my life.

Ladies and gentlemen, we now come to the signing of the commemorative certificate. I would like to invite _____ and _____ and their witnesses to come forward to sign the commemorative certificate.
