Song: On Thanksgiving Day by Jack Hartmann
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
For the friends that I have
The school where I go
Home where I live
I GIVE THANKS
For the fun that I have
Things that I do
Food that I eat.
I GIVE THANKS
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
Give thanks… every day of the year.
Give thanks… every day of the year.
For the hugs that I get
The teachers I have
The love that I feel
I GIVE THANKS.
For puppy dogs,
Bright sunny days,
My family,
I GIVE THANKS
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
On Thanksgiving Day and every day of the year.
Give thanks… every day of the year.
Give thanks… every day of the year.
Pilgrim 1: My name is Elizabeth Winslow.
Averi Our story started in Plymouth, England, in 1620. The Pilgrims left England on a
ship called the Mayflower. The people who crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the
Mayflower 400 years ago were poor and ordinary folks, yet their names are in
history books today.
Song: Do you Know about the First Thanksgiving (Tune of Muffin Man)
Do you know about the first Thanksgiving
the first Thanksgiving, the first Thanksgiving…
Do you know about the first Thanksgiving,
It was 400 years ago.
In 1620, it started with the king,
Started with the king, started with the king.
In 1620, it started with the king,
He wouldn’t let us have our own religion.
We sailed from England on the Mayflower
the Mayflower, the Mayflower…
We sailed from England on the Mayflower…
102 passengers in all.
Do you know about the first Thanksgiving
the first Thanksgiving, the first Thanksgiving…
Do you know about the first Thanksgiving,
It was 400 years ago.
Pilgrim 2: My name is William Bradford. It all started with the king of England.
Julius He wouldn’t let us have our own religion. We decided to sail across the Atlantic
Ocean and go to America for a new life. We left in September, 1620.
We sailed on the Mayflower. The weather was stormy and the water was choppy.
It took us 66 days before we finally saw land.
Pilgrim 3: My name is Priscilla Mullens. There were 102 passengers on the Mayflower.
Allysia There were also 34 sailors on board. The Mayflower was made to only hold 30 people
and cargo… so it was really crowded. The passengers had to stay in an area called the
“Tween’s Deck”. We made rules and everyone signed the “Mayflower Compact”.
Pilgrim 4: My name is Samuel Eaton. The Mayflower was cold and damp. There was no water
Kevin for washing. We had to eat the same meal every day. We ate salted beef, cheese
and dry bread. Some of it had worms in it. (oooo) Many of us got sick.
Pilgrim 5: My name is Elizabeth Hopkins. I actually had my son, Oceanus, while we were
Marinna sailing. There were lots of storms. It took us 9 weeks, but we finally saw land.
I spotted land and yelled, “Land Ho”! It was exciting, but it was also very scary.
We saw some strange looking people hiding in the words.
Pilgrim 7: My name is Sarah Morton. We finally landed and made it safely to shore.
Cara “Come on everyone! Follow me!”
(Everyone crosses over to the “land” side.)
Pilgrim 7: We picked a good place to live. We found a brook that flowed into the harbor.
Cara It had fresh water and fields for planting. A large rock marked the landing.
We called this place “New Plymouth”.
Pilgrim 6: My name is John Alden. The Native American Indians looked scary. It was November
Joseph then and the weather was cold. We only got a few houses built that first winter.
There wasn’t much food and a lot of people got sick. That first winter almost half of us
died. That’s 50 men, women, and children. It was a very long winter.
Pilgrim 8 My name is Myles Standish. One day two Native American Indians came right into
Logan our settlement. We were frightened, but they looked friendly. This Indian could
speak English and was very nice. He told us his name was Samoset. He introduced us
to Squanto.
Native American 1: My name is Samoset. They were surprised when I spoke to them in English.
James I was here visiting the Wampanoag tribe and was not afraid of these white men.
I learned English from the fishermen who fished near my home in what is now Maine.
I welcomed these new people to our land.
Native American 2: My name is Squanto. My life had been very rough. Sea captains grabbed me Matthew and took me to England. That is how I learned England. While I was gone, my entire
tribe got sick and died. The Wampanoag people helped me and let me live with them. So I decided I wanted to help these Pilgrims.
Song: Squanto and his Friends (The Farmer in the Dell)
Squanto and his friends,
Squanto and his friends,
They helped us learn about this land
and lent a helping hand.
The Native Americans were friends
The Native Americans were friends
They helped us learn about this land
and lent a helping hand.
The Pilgrims and Indians were friends,
The Pilgrims and Indians were friends,
They helped us learn about this land
and lent a helping hand.
Native American 3: My name is Rainbow Spirit. At first we were afraid of the Pilgrims. They
Jody looked so different and had such strange looking clothing and customs. Squanto
helped us become good friends. We taught the Pilgrims where to find berries and how
to plant corn. They taught us new songs and a new language.
Native American 4: My name is Strong Deer. We taught these Pilgrims how to hunt and how to set
Bartek traps. The Pilgrims showed us how to use their tools and guns. The Pilgrims and
Indians learned to trust each other by working together.
Song: This is What my Hands Can Do (Peacekeepers)
I can help me, I can help you… and that is what my hands can do.
I can hold the door open for you… that is what my hands can do.
I can pick up something for you… that is what my hands can do.
You can meet me, I can meet you… that is what my hands can do.
I can help me, I can help you… that is what my hands can do.
Native American 5: My name is Little Doe. The white people needed our help. We showed them
Janai how to fish and plant corn. We showed them how to put fish in the soil to make
the plants grow better. We worked together.
Native American 6: My name is Chief Massasoit. I came over to meet with these Pilgrims.
Lucas I sat down and talked to William Bradford. We both said we wanted to be friends.
Governor Bradford and I decided to work together and promised not to hurt each
other. The paper that was signed was called a treaty.
Pilgrim 1 (Julius) : Let’s work together!
Native American 5 (Lucas): Let’s Cooperate!
Song: Cooperation
This job’s too big for me, this job’s too big for you.
But we can work together, that’s cooperation. (3 times)
Till the job is through.
This job’s too be for me, this job’s too big for you.
But we can life together, that’s cooperation. (3 times)
Till the job is through.
This job’s too big for me, this job’s too big for you.
But we can clean up together, that’s cooperation. (3 times)
Till the job is through.
This job’s too big for me, this job’s too big for you.
But we can build together, that’s cooperation. (3 times)
Till the job is through.
Pilgrim 9: My name is Mary Allerton. We worked hard every day. We did not go to school
Nadia but every day mother and father helped us learn. The clothing we wore took a
long time to put on. All the girls wore petticoats and a shirt jacket.
The boys wore dresses until they were 6 years old. Then they wore breechers.
Pilgrim 10: My name is Dr. Samuel Fuller. I was the doctor who traveled on the Mayflower.
Max Many people got sick and died that first year. It was very sad.
We worked all summer and in the fall we had a great harvest.
We decided to invite the Native Americans to a Thanksgiving feast.
Would you all come and give thanks with us. We want to celebrate our harvest.
Native American 6: My name is Mystic Dancer. We told them we would love to come.
Molly We told them we would bring some turkeys and some lobster. We brought corn too. My tribe was very excited about visiting our new friends. We gave our friends some necklaces we had made. We also taught them Wampanoag songs.
Song: In the Month of November by Jack Hartmann
Colder weather on the way –
Celebrate Thanksgiving day
Friends and family all together
In the month of November
Colder weather on the way –
Celebrate Thanksgiving ay
Friends and family all together
In the month of November
We’ll meet the Native Americans (Indians wave)
We’ll meet the Pilgrims (Pilgrims wave)
We’ll celebrate together
In the month of November
Oh, I…ya, I…ya, I…ya Hey
Celebrate Thanksgiving Day
I…ya, I…ya, I…ya Hoo
In the month of November
Native American 8: My name is Golden Eagle because I am a great scout. 90 Native Americans
Dashaun came to the feast. I don’t think the Pilgrims expected so many of us to come to their
Thanksgiving feast. All the men went on a great hunting adventure.
We came back with five deer. We had plenty to eat now. The men had a great party. We did a corn dance and some of the Pilgrim children joined in.
Native American 9: My name is Prancing Rabbit. The feast was so much fun. Governor Bradford
Audrey said a prayer of thanks. Then the feast began. We had wild turkeys, geese, and ducks. Together we gathered wild fruits. We also had clams and fish. All of us worked together to harvest carrots, cabbages, beets, and corn. The food was delicious. The feast lasted for three days.
Join us in a song we taught the Pilgrims.

Pilgrim 2: Little did we know that that feast would be remembered 400 years later
Julius These ordinary people cooperated with each other and helped make our nation great.
Jody In 1863 Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, made Thanksgiving Day a national
holiday. Today we celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday in November.
Julius & Jody The First Thanksgiving will never be forgotten.
