Through the Helping Others to Progress in Education (H.O.P.E) Scholarship, the Homeless Education Program intends to award academic achievement and promote higher education in high school seniors. Two scholarships per ESC (North, South, East, West, ISIC) in the amount of $500 each will be awarded. You are eligible to apply for the H.O.P.E Scholarship if you are: Homeless – The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act defines homeless children, as youth who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence. A student with a current SRQ on file with the Homeless Education Program.A high school senior attending an LAUSD school with a 2.5 GPA or higher who will graduate in June 2014 and has been accepted into an accredited college, university or trade school.To apply the student must: Complete the H.O.P.E Scholarship application with assistance from the referring counselor and attach a recent report card, attendance record and transcripts Write a 250-word essay that best describes your academic achievements, volunteerism and future educational plans Attach a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or administratorAttach verification of acceptance into an accredited college, university or trade schoolSubmission Deadline:The submission deadline is May 5, 2014. The scholarship committee will select the H.O.P.E Scholarship recipients and students will be notified by May 12, 2014.
