Positive Impact PortfolioScience Experiment part 3 modificationYou’ve learned a lot about some the environmental issues facing out oceans and water ways. It is time to make a positive impact! As one of our videos this semester said “think globally, act locally”, we will be doing just that. There are two options for this portfolio. Option 1- Trash Pick up ??Obtain a large trash bag and gloves. ??Walk around your neighborhood filing up the bag. If you can do this near a body of water, even better, but not required. Be careful to look out for cars etc while walking around??As you walk around, observe other types of pollutants that might be affecting the body of water. For example, run off from roads, marinas, sewage, etc. ??After you have filled the bag, sort the trash that you found into categories (plastic, paper, glass, etc). Take a picture of the garbage you collectedCreate a chart that organizes the trash that you found. Your chart should include the following columns: ??Title the chart and include the name of the location where you picked up trash ??Name of trash and number of each (straw, plastic cup, etc) ??Category ??How you believe the trash got onto the shore ??Potential damage or hazard in the environment ?Create a second chart to show the additional types of pollution in the area. The chart must contain the following information: ??Type of pollution ??Point of origin (where is it coming from? Where it is entering the body of water?) ??What do you think could be done to stop, or limit the pollution? Type a paragraph summarizing you findings (at least 8 - 10 sentences). Thoughts you can incorporate into your summary: ??What was the most common type of trash? Did it surprise you? Why do you think it was so common? ??What types of pollutants were entering the area? Could they be limited? ??What ideas do you have for limiting the amount of trash and pollutants? (Please state more than just, "humans need to stop polluting.") Submit to CheckMyWork, include link, and everything to the Scientific Method part 3 dropbox,Option 2 - Letter to PoliticianWrite a letter to a local politician expressing your opinion about the health of the oceans, or a body of water in your local area. (Sending the letter is optional.) ??If you cannot find the name of a local politician, you can simply address the letter to, "Dear Sir", or, "Dear Ma'am". ??Paper Format: ??Size 12 font ??Single spaced ??1" margins Research water pollution and issues concerning the body of water you choose. You need to have a minimum of 2 sources, include a works cited section, needs to be in APA formatYour letter should be a minimum of one page in length, single spaced, and should include the following: Facts demonstrating your knowledge on the importance of a healthy ocean, or body of water. ??Facts on the positive effects of a healthy ocean, or body of water. Facts should focus on both environmental impacts and economic impacts. For example, if Lake Tahoe was highly polluted, would it bring in as many tourists every year? ??Write your letter in a persuasive tone. However, make sure to include facts and that it is written in a clear, concise manner. ??Must submit assignment to CheckMyWork and include link at the bottom of the assignment Grading rubrics: Option 1: 5 pts – Chart with garbage collected (5 columns) 4pts – Chart of other contaminants (3 columns) 6pts – Written Summary (2pts per bullet point) ??What was the most common type of trash?
