Counselor Chat InformationHello! Thank you in your interest in volunteering for the Counselor Chat for NACAC’s virtual college fairs! We are excited to be offering parents and students a dynamic virtual platform to engage with hundreds of colleges and universities. Here is some information about the Counselor Chat. What is the Counselor Chat? The Counselor Chat is a feature of our new platform and it essentially works like a virtual version of our College Advising Centers at our in-person college fairs. Attendees will login to the platform and be given a chat icon at the bottom of their screen. At any time, they can click on that icon and ask questions to help guide them through the fair. You, as a volunteer, will be logged into the chat and questions will be directed to you as they come in. The chat feature that NACAC uses is called Intercom.Fair DatesCurrently, these are the fair dates for the upcoming spring 2021 fairs:Sunday, January 31- 1-7pm ESTSunday, February 28- 1-7pm ESTSunday, March 21- 1-7pm ESTSunday, May 2- 1-7pm ESTTime SlotsMany of our volunteers of our past fairs worked for between 2-4 hours shifts with most volunteers only doing 2 hours shifts. For example, our fair on October 12 was from 1-9pm. Some of the volunteers worked 1-3pm, 4-6pm, 7-9pm. Please note that all of the time slots are in Eastern Time Zone. We also need volunteers an hour before the fair starts because we open the chat an hour early in case attendees have questions.TrainingAs mentioned above, the chat platform that NACAC uses is Intercom. NACAC holds a training with an instructor from NACAC’s virtual fair platform, VisitDays. When coming to days and times that NACAC holds a training, we will send you an email with the date and the times that the training will be held. Once you have confirmed which date and time you will attend the fair, a link will be sent inviting you to login into the icsIf you plan on volunteering, please include topics from the list below that you would be comfortable answering at the fair. Here is a list of topics that attendees will be asking about:Majors and academicsSchools in Specific Geographic LocationsFinancial AidAdmissions during COVID 19Athletics and extracurricularsSpecific School Types - HBCUs, Trade/Certificate Programs/Liberal ArtsGeneral Questions (Mostly the “I don’t know where to start” students)Resource MaterialsWhen it gets closer to the fair, additional resource materials will be sent you. ................
