ORDER OF WORSHIP

Second Sunday after Pentecost

June 26, 2011

WE APPROACH GOD

PRELUDE

WELCOME

Welcome! We are glad that you have come to learn of God and God’s Word. May every blessing be yours as we gather before our heavenly Father.

*OPENING HYMN

“All Creatures of Our God and King” 43 [R]

*CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 100)

Leader: Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

People: Worship the LORD with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs.

Leader: Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us and we are His;

People: we are His people, the sheep of His pasture.

Leader: Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His Name.

People: For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.

*PRAISE HYMN

“Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above” 5 [R]

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (1 Timothy 1:15, 17)

People: Merciful God, You made us in Your image, with a mind to know You, a heart to love You, and a will to serve You. But our knowledge is imperfect, our love inconstant, our obedience incomplete. Day by day, we fail to grow into Your likeness. In your tender love, forgive us through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Here are words you may trust, words that merit full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. To all who confess their sins and resolve to lead a new life, He says, “Your sins are forgiven.” He also says, “Follow Me.” Now to the one who rules all worlds, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.

The alpha (Á) and the omega (Ù) are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. The Alpha and Omega (ÁÙ) is an early Christian inscription, found in the Roman catacombs, signifying God’s eternal being and reminding us of our limited understanding of a God who is without beginning or end. This God is the eternal One whom we worship and praise as we gather together.
