Role of the Recorder/ Scorer

SW 2.12 Desk Control

SW 2.12.1 The chief recorder is responsible for checking results from computer printouts or from results of times and placing in each event received from the referee. The chief recorder shall witness the referee's signing the results.

SW 2.12.2 The recorders shall control withdrawals after the heats or finals, enter results on official forms, list all new records established, and maintain scores where appropriate.

Duties of the Recorder/ Scorer

In events with preliminary heats, the Recorder/Scorer shall

? Receive and process the Chief Finish Judge's (CFJ) or Chief Judge Electronics' (CJE) reports of each event.

? Compile a complete list of performances achieved in preliminary heats.

? Compile a list of swimmers, including the two (2) highestranking alternates, who advance to A and B finals ? The finals list shall include swimmers names, club, times and lane assignment. ? Provide a list of finals for program, press and/or posting.

? Shall keep an accounting of all pending records.

Duties of the Recorder/ Scorer

During sessions of finals (and all Timed final events), the Recorder/Scorer shall

? Receive and process the Chief Finish Judge's (CFJ) or Chief Judge Electronics' (CJE) reports of each event.

? Compile a complete list of swimmers in their order of finish. ? Shall keep an accounting of team and individual scores

? Provide scoring for interim announcement and final results

? Shall keep an accounting of all pending records. ? Assist the Meet Manager in producing a complete list of

results of the meet.

Performance of the position

To do this job well, you need to know:

? How to use computerized swimming competition software (Hy-Tek's Meet Manager or Splash) to:

o Re-seed heats and events o Record and post results o Record unusual swims and events

On deck experience is the best way to learn this

o Score an event

position.

o Know if a record time is set

? How to stay organized

Before the Meet

You should arrive one hour before the start of the session:

? Get a copy of the Meet Package (helps determine how the meet is scored) and session heat sheet

? Ask the Meet Manager: ? Where is the work area? ? Is all the meet to be scored by computer, or are some parts to be scored manually? ? Where are the results to be posted?

? Make sure computer and hardware connected ? Ensure paper, stapler, paperclips, elastics are plentiful

Before the Meet

You should meet with key officials and agree to the routines for the session:

? Find and introduce yourself to:

o Referee o Chief Finish Judge or Chief Judge Electronics o Electronics operator o Clerk of Course o Chief Timekeeper o Runners

? Establish routines for:

o Receiving changes o Approving results
