The Extraordinary & Essential

Names of God -- Yeshua is YHVH

By Pamala Denise Smith

GateKey Verse -- Psalm 91:141 Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him;

I will protect him because he knows My name.

What does the person of "Christ" mean to you? _______________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Christ is the Greek word, which is in Hebrew "Messiah" and is a title that means literally "the anointed one" referring to Jesus as the Christ -- supremely empowered by the Holy Spirit to accomplish all of the divine plan.2

The Gospel of John introduces Yeshua as God Incarnate34

John 1 -- Prologue

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it. 6 There was a man named John who was sent from God. 7 He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. 9 The true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was created through Him, yet the world did not recognize Him.

11 He came to His own, and His own people did not receive Him. 12 But to all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God. 14 The Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We observed His glory, the glory as the One and Only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified concerning Him and exclaimed, "This was the One of whom I said, `The One coming after me has surpassed me, because He existed before me.' ") 16 Indeed, we have all received grace after grace from His fullness, 17 for although the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. The One and Only Son -- the One who is at the Father's side -- He has revealed Him.

YHVH -- "The Self-Existent One Who Reveals Himself."

Isaiah 12:2 Indeed, God is my salvation. I will trust [Him] and not be afraid. Because Yah, the Lord, is my strength and my song, He has become my salvation."

1 In this study, all scripture is taken from the Holman Christian Standard Bible (CSB) unless otherwise noted. 2 HELPS Word-studies. 3 Incarnate -- literally means embodied in flesh or taking on flesh. It refers to the conception and birth of a sentient creature who

is the material manifestation of an entity, god or force whose original nature is immaterial. In its religious context the word is

used to mean the descent from Heaven of a god, or divine being in human/animal form on Earth. (Wikipedia) 4 Not to be confused with reincarnation, which is the religious or philosophical concept that the soul or spirit, after biological

death, can begin a new life in a new body. (Wikipedia)

Yeshua was named by God and proclaimed by Gabriel

Luke 1 (c.f., Mt. 1:21) 30 Then the angel told her: Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 Now listen: You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will call His name JESUS. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.

Jesus is the transliteration of the Hebrew term, "Yehoshua" (Jehoshua), contracted to "Joshua" --

"YHWH saves" or "Yahweh is salvation".

As the personal name of God and His most frequent designation, we are instructed to not take it in vain (Exodus 20:7). So, the Jewish theologians, sages, and rabbis deem it as unutterable. Yet, scripture also encourages us to call upon His Name (Isaiah 12:4, 1 Chronicles 16:8, Psalm 105:1, Joel 2:32, etc.). This is fulfilled in Yeshua.

Christ's Humility and Exaltation

Philippians 2 5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death -- even to death on a cross. 9 For this reason God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow -- of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth -- 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

YHVH became what we are (humankind) so that we could become what He is (divinekind).

We were created in His image. Yeshua was YHVH created in man's image.

Yeshua (Jesus) is YHVH in the flesh! To say that Jesus Christ is Lord (c.f., Romans 10:9) is to confess Him as Adonai -- or YHVH -- HIMSELF!

According to the New Testament, salvation is experienced only by "changing your mind" and personally trusting that Yeshua/YHVH was executed as our atonement (kapparah) for your sins -- lived, died, buried, and raised from the dead. He is our High Priest set in heaven (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). There is no other Mediator before the Father and no other Name given to mankind for salvation.

? Peter and John Face the Jewish Leadership (Acts 4:5-12) -- No other name for salvation! ? All the prophets (Old Testament) testify about him and all who believe in Him receives forgiveness of sins

THROUGH His Name! (Acts 10:43) ? Children of Abraham AND God-fearing Gentiles, it is to u that this message of salvation has been sent. (Acts

13:26). ? Petitions, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings -- please God our Savior through the mediation of Yeshua

(1 Timothy 2:1-7).

Jesus is Jehovah

"Jehovah" is the common English translation of YHVH (Yahweh). One reason it is important for us to know what we believe concerning Yeshua's deity as YHVH (Jesus is Jehovah) is because this sets Him apart as very God and very man. Jesus of the New Covenant is YHVH of the Old Covenant, as promised (Isaiah 40:3-5; Zephaniah 3:14-17; Zechariah 2:10-13, 9:9-13; Malachi 3:1).

Without sin nothing separated Jesus from the divine image of God (Hebrews 4:15; 2 Corinthians 5:21). With this assurance, we can give an answer to every man for the hope that is within us. For example, Jehovah Witnesses state in their publications such as Watchtower Bible & Tract Society that Jesus is not Jehovah.

Hebrews 2 -- Jesus and Humanity 5 For He has not subjected to angels the world to come that we are talking about. 6 But one has somewhere testified: What is man, that You remember him, or the son of man, that You care for him? 7 You made him lower than the angels for a short time; You crowned him with glory and honor 8 and subjected everything under his feet. For in subjecting everything to him, He left nothing not subject to him. As it is, we do not yet see everything subjected to him. 9 But we do see Jesus -- made lower than the angels for a short time so that by God's grace He might taste death for everyone-crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death. 10 For it was fitting, in bringing many sons to glory, that He, for whom and through whom all things exist, should make the source of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For the One who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one Father. That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12 saying: I will proclaim Your name to My brothers; I will sing hymns to You in the congregation. 13 Again, I will trust in Him. And again, Here I am with the children God gave Me. 14 Now since the children have flesh and blood in common, He also shared in these, so that through His death He might destroy the one holding the power of death-that is, the Devil -- 15 and free those who were held in slavery all their lives by the fear of death. 16 For it is clear that He does not reach out to help angels, but to help Abraham's offspring. 17 Therefore He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For since He Himself was tested and has suffered, He is able to help those who are tested.

1 Peter 3 -- Undeserved Suffering 13 And who will harm you if you are passionate for what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear

what they fear or be disturbed, 15 but set apart the Messiah as Lord in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. 16 However, do this with gentleness

and respect, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life will be put to shame. 17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil. 18 For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring you to God, after being put to death in the fleshly realm but made alive in the spiritual realm. 19 In that state He also went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison 20 who in the past were disobedient, when God patiently waited in the days of Noah while an ark was being prepared; in it, a few -- that is, eight people-were saved through water. 21 Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God) through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. 22 Now that He has gone into heaven, He is at God's right hand, with angels, authorities, and powers subjected to Him.

Jesus Claimed to Be Jehovah

Jesus claimed to be "I AM" (John 8:24, 28, 58; 13:19; 18:5-6). The "I am he" in the original Greek of those verses is ego eimi -- "I am" -- with no "he". In the Greek Old Testament (Septuagint or LXX) ego eimi -- "I AM" -- is the self-designation of Jehovah (Exodus 3:14-15; Deuteronomy 32:39; Isaiah 41:4; 43:10; 46:4; 52:6). In particular, Jesus claimed to be Jehovah in His statements that, "Before Abraham was born, I am [ego eimi]" (John 8:58), and "unless you believe that I am [ego eimi - no "he"] ... you will die in your sins" (John 8:24). Likewise, Jesus also claimed to be Jehovah when He walked on the stormy sea and told the disciples in their sinking boat to, "Take heart; it is I" (ego eimi -- "I AM") (Matthew 14:23-27; Mark 6:47-50; John 6:16-20).

Colossian 1 -- Jesus is the Physical

Creation of God's Image 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation; 16 because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. 18 He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything. 19 For God was pleased [to have] all His fullness dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross- whether things on earth or things in heaven.

John 14 -- Jesus is the Father 7 "If you know Me, you will also know My Father. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him." 8 "Lord," said Philip, "show us the Father, and that's enough for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been among you all this time without your knowing Me, Philip? The one who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? The words I speak to you I do not speak on My own. The Father who lives in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. Otherwise, believe because of the works themselves.

Praying in the Name of Jesus

Jesus Christ, our Yeshua HaMashiach, was outwardly a Jew; but, inwardly Jehovah. In the New Covenant, we find that He is the eternal Lord God incarnate (John 1:18, 5:37, 6:46, Colossians 1:15, 2:8-10; 1 Timothy 6:16; 1 John 4:12) and the Holy One (1 Peter 1:13-21). He is our hope! To put our hope in anyone other than God would be a sin since we cannot take/bear the Name of the Lord in vain and as vaporous breath (Exodus 20:7).

John 14 12 "I assure you: The one who believes in Me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.

John 15 7 If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you . . . 15 I do not call you slaves anymore, because a slave doesn't know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from My Father. 16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you. I appointed you that you should go out and produce fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.

John 16 26 In that day you will ask in My name. I am not telling you that I will make requests to the Father on your behalf. 27 For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father." 29 "Ah!" His disciples said. "Now You're speaking plainly and not using any figurative language. 30 Now we know that You know everything and don't need anyone to question You. By this we believe that You came from God." 31 Jesus responded to them, "Do you now believe? 32 Look: An hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave Me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. 33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world."

Two is a Witness; Three is a Perfect/Mature Witness -- Matthew 18 18 I assure you: Whatever you bind on earth is already bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth is already loosed in heaven. 19 Again, I assure you: If two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there among them."

I have an expectation of God bringing forth Creative Miracles with signs and wonders worked in us by YHVH in Yeshua!
