Re: Budget Amendment for the Adult Alternative Program

Dear Councilman Hilbert,

I hope this letter finds you well. I write in support of your proposed amendment to Mayor Stoney's budget to provide additional financial support to the Adult Alternative Program. I truly believe that the Adult Alternative Program is an innovative and much needed ex-offender re-entry program, and as such, must have the full support of our city leaders.

The single most challenging hurdle for ex-offenders is a lack of opportunity following their incarceration. This program provides the opportunity for these individuals to reclaim their lives, learn tangible job and life skills, gain income stability, and most importantly, a sense of dignity.

I sincerely hope that you and your colleagues will not allow this opportunity to invest in not only the Adult Alternative Program but in the future success of young ex-offenders.

Sincerely,

Lamont Bagby Member, 74th District Virginia House of Delegates
