Dear Health Science Academy Student:

I hope you all are doing well and staying healthy. I know this is a difficult time for all, but we will survive it and come out stronger and more resilient than when we started. Try to find that something good that can come out of our negative situation. I encourage you to take this time to check in with your teachers’ assignments and stay as academically focused as possible. Below I am providing you with some updates in our program. You are always welcome to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments you may have.

• Chemistry Workshop will still take place (In the summer with date to be determined).

• Volunteer hours are now due August 31, 2020 instead of April 22. If this presents a problem, please contact me.

• You may turn in any volunteer hours that you have at this point by emailing me at dsholar@ or by mailing your log to me directly at 235 Lyman Road, Beulaville, NC 28518. Please remember to take a picture of your log if possible.

• STEAMA Camp for this year has been canceled.

• Please reach out to me with any course selection questions. Look at your 6 recommended course list.

• Juniors, the Ambassador Application is online. Go to our webpage (Go to , click students, click Duplin Health Sciences Academy, click health science forms and applications) and you will see the application. You may email or mail to me (use addresses from above). The due date is June 1st, but I encourage you to turn in earlier. Reach out if there is an issue.

• Please make sure you are signed up for remind. Go to the announcements page on our webpage and scroll to the very bottom for the codes. You may also download the app.

• You may turn in hospital volunteer applications to Ms. Nan Pate at Vidant Duplin via email. Do not attempt to turn in by physically taking her the application. If you need her email or an application, please let me know.

• The Year-End Awards Celebration will be for seniors only this year. You will, however, receive any volunteer medallion that you earn after the new August 31 volunteer deadline date. These will be given out at school.

• Current Juniors, once we return to school, you will need to schedule a time in the summer when we can meet for your senior conference. I will send out a remind message. These are important meetings where we talk about college applications, scholarships, etc. I can meet you at your high school or you can come to my office at JKHS.

• I f I need to add any other updates, I will do so through individual remind messages. This letter will also be posted online under health science forms and applications.
