Christopher Gardner’s life is shown to be one full of tragic events. Running low on money, Christopher Gardner desperately attempts to sell his bone density scanners to be able to care for his son. Everything from his bank account to his house are lost and he unfortunately finds himself and his son homeless when his wife leaves without any care. Pressure rises as he tries to create a better life for himself and his son by applying for job in an extremely high company doing all it takes and sacrificing so much. The reason I love this film is because it contains such raw emotion. The fact that Will and Jaden Smith are father and son in real life creates an even better bond creating deeper meaning. Emotions run even deeper knowing that this is a true story and that all the struggles faced throughout actually happened in real life too.-704850343535-7239002294255280035022866352819400324485-57150011430CluelessYear: (1995)Genre: Comedy, RomanceDirector: Amy HeckerlingWriter: Amy HeckerlingStars: Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany MurphySource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)Clueless is a rom com based on teenagers in a high school setting. Cher and Dionne are best friends who are two of the most popular girls in school. Fashion and guys are heir two biggest interests. When Tai moves to the area, Cher and Dionne see it as the perfect opportunity to adopt her and give her a makeover. Tai reaches the peak of her popularity and gets the boy she’s been wishing for. After the jealousy and pain, life ends well for everyone as Cher discovers more about herself and becomes a better person.I would have to say that Clueless is one of my favourite films due to the fact that the characters are that of a similar age to me. For this reason, I feel that it is easy to relate to many of the situations that occur, for example boys. All girls at this age stress about boys and relationships much like the girls in the film as they spend a lot of their time fussing about getting a boyfriend. I feel like I am quite similar to ‘Dionne’ as she has a very sarcastic side to her and she is very straightforward and opinionated like myself. -838200242570027622502425700-8191503867152755900415290-685800-114300The HelpYear: (2011)Genre: DramaDirector: Tate TaylorWriter: Tate TaylorStars: Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia SpencerSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)The Help is set in the time of the civil rights movements in the 1960’s and tells the story of an aspiring author Skeeter who wishes to write a book about the opinions of African American maids and how they feel about working for white people. Hesitant, Minny and Aibleen agreed to be interviewed anonymously resulting in Skeeter being fired for the content she produced. Soon after, several more black maids agreed to be interviewed by Skeeter and the book ‘The Help’ was released. People around the town were shocked and disgusted in the idea of it though Skeeter was unphased and showed her appreciation by sharing her earning with the ladies who helped. Beautiful unlikely friendships formed. One of the reasons I love this film is because of the actress Octavia Spencer. I am a big fan of her work and feel that every role she plays within films is different and special. I feel like I am a lot like Minny and Aibileen in particular times through the film. Aibileen says ‘You is kind. You is smart. You is important’ in an attempt to create a positive impact on Mae Mobley and I feel that I myself try to make others feel as good about themselves as possible.-8616952425702794635229552527940002368550-3414395345440-519430-335280Fruitvale Station Year: (2013)Genre: Biography, Drama, RomanceDirector: Ryan CoolglerWriter: Ryan CooglerStars: Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz, Octavia SpencerSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)Fruitvale Station tells the true Story of Oscar-a 22-year-old man who mad a plan to better his life by becoming a better person to his loved ones. He goes out on New Years Eve with friends when a fight breaks out on the train. BART police officers pull Oscar and his friends off of the train as they believe they were responsible for the violencethatoccured. As a result Oscarwas shot dead.Fruitvale Station is one of my all-time favourite films. This is due to the fact that I have a love for documentaries and films or shows that are able to teach you about something real. The fact that this is based on a true story brought me to love it more as I feel that the story becomes so much deeper when you realise that the struggles faced are ones that have really happened. I love the main character Oscar as despite being portrayed as a tough looking gangster he actually has a heart of gold proven by caring for his child and looking after the dog that was hit by a car. It makes us realise that you really shouldn’t judge a person’s actions on the way they look.27279602251294-7619132264213-7638173279892750820326062-748665233680The Colour PurpleYear: (1985)Genre: DramaDirector: Steven Spielberg Writer: Menno MeyjesStars: Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah WinfreySource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)Celie Johnson is raped and forced to have babies by her own father. He tries to get Celies little sister Nettie to marry but when she refuses he make Celie do it instead. Times get hard for Celie as her and Nettie are separated and is forced into things she shouldn’t be. Children absent and feeling lonely Celies abusers lover comes and befriends her proving than she is more than a servant. Celie builds up the confidence to threaten her abuser which worked out in her favour. In the end, she is reunited with her sister and babies. This film is so moving as you can only feel sorry for Celie. Being abused and disrespected by her father and passed around like an object is something that no person should have to deal with. Having siblings myself I couldn’t imagine being torn from them the way her and her sister were. It was disgusting and inhumane but I love being able to see the way that she fought through the situation and managed to turn it around.-7804152216785260868922232442608580205105-763905196324-862965-110490MoonlightYear: (2016)Genre: DramaDirector: Barry JenkinsWriters: Barry JenkinsStars: Mahershala Ali, Shariff Earp, Duan SandersonSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017) Moonlight is an award winning film about a young gayblack boy who finds it hard to completely appreciate who he truly is. Beaten and bullied by kids at school and not excepted by his crazy crack addict mother, Chiron struggles to keep high spirits until he meets Juan- the neighborhood drug dealer. Juan sees that Chiron is neglected and takes him under his wing like his own son. They build a strong bond and over time become best friends. Chirons life is shown in three parts to see the changes and things he manages to overcome overtime. This is on my 10 favourite films list as I love the story behind it and watchinig Chiron slowly learning to accept himself because of the love that he recieves from Juan. Its amazing to see the things some love and support can do for a person. Although he still wasn’t the most confident person attheend, he still manged to find himself through experiencing being in love and being loved.-6699252189787275156421899402772388224790-653524231250-633730-45466012 Years a SlaveYear: (2013)Genre: Biography, Drama, HistoryDirector: Steve McQueenWriters: John RidleyStars: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Kenneth Williams, Michael FassbenderSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)Solomon Northup was just a normal man living with his family in New York in 1841. This was until the time he waskidnapped and sold as a slav. He faces the most traumatic experiences with getting beaten on a regular basis but is made to go through these hardships for a full 12 years.I love the setting of this film as I feel that it is a very clear representation of slavery and the events that took place through this time period. I feel that despite it being packed with drama, and other film like features it was extremely informative and taught me a lot about the struggles that black people faced as slaves. Although it sounds odd to call this one of my favourite films, I don’t like it for the violence but for what it teaches us as an audience. This is one film I can admit I cried at as some of the scenes were extremely graphic and hard to imagine being something that occurred in real life.-749935384810-7321552405906270877924442022687955407670-526415110490I am DavidYear: (2003)Genre: Drama Director: Paul FeigWriters: Paul FeigStars: Ben Tibber, Jim Caviezel, Joan PlowrightSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)I am David is a story about a young boy a concentration camp whos life was saved by a man who also stayed there. He was given a few items and a letter to take to Denmark, set off and escaped the samp. Meeting many helpful people along the way and getting into a bit of trouble, David ends his story in away no one would ever imagine. The reason that this is one of my favourite films is due to the fact that a lot of the time you never really see anyone escape concentration camps and end up living a happy normal life. Seeing David set off on an independent adventure where he is finally free is completely uplifting and putsme in a good mood. As well as smiling a lot through it I also cried happy tears towards the end. This film brings back memories as I watched it with my mum and I don’t really watch a lot with her but it is a film that we were both able to enjoy.276669523622027349452286635-702529235279-6998792265220-7442205080The Boy in the Striped PyjamasYear: (2008)Genre: Drama, WarDirector: Mark HermanWriters: Mark HermanStars: Asa Butterfield, David Thewlis, Rupert FriendSource: (Reviewed on 02/11/2017)This film is set during the second World War. Things really started when 8-year-old Bruno got bored in his new home and wanted to go and explore. Despite what his mother told him, Bruno run wild through the woods and over hills when he comes across a sad looking boy behind a fence. He discovered Shmuel and they started a magical friendship, which took a dark turn. Oblivious, young Bruno planned to dig under the fence to be with Shmuel, which resulted in the both of them being gassed to death in the concentration camp controlled by his own father. The large range of emotions is what I love about this film. The friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is so innocent and pure. The way they are both presented makes me feel sorry for the both of them and having a lack of friends myself helps me to understand how bored Bruno must have been at home with nothing to do all day which is the reason everything turned sour at the end.-800100246380-7643212264607266203022491702662227281940-499979274587Girls TripYear: (2017)Genre:ComedyDirector: Malcolm D. I feel as if it got me thinking about all the things I will experience when I start going away with my own friends. All of the characters had traits that matched my friends and, so I could relate what was happening to what could happen in my life. My favourite scene from this film has to be the fight in the club in the colourful wigs. ................
