Dr. Dale F. Leipper, head of the Department of Ocean ography and Meteorology, will make a trip to Russia this summer to attend the fifth

assembly of the special Interna tional Geophysical Year commit tee. .

Leipper's selection was made by the U.S. National Committee, ICY, of the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council.

The Assembly will be held, Aug ust 1-9, at Moscow State Univers

Michael L. McGuire recently was presented the outstanding sopho more award in chemical engineer ing.

The Beta Beta Chapter of Phi Lambda Upsilon, honorary fra ternity for chemistry and chemical engineering majors, presented the first annual award--a $25 savings bond.

The award is made possible by the Royce H. LeRoy Memorial Fund, set aside by friends of the late Royce H. LeRoy, Professor of chemistry.

McGuire, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McGuire of College Station,

The awards were 'presented to students who have read and re ported on at least 10 books this year in a program set up and ap proved by the Texas Education Agency.

Riedel praised the elementary school teachers for the interest and skill in reading shown by the grade schooler's.
