WVBEC does not distinguish between specialty areas of counseling and does not provide certification, however, a drug and alcohol counselor that does not work for a non profit agency is required to have WV LPC licensure in order to practice counseling in the state.

WVBEC will accept the offerings by NAADAC if they are NBCC approved.

Currently 40 contact hours are required to renew an LPC license every 2 years, however, a proposed rule change will be presented to the legislature next year requiring 35 contact hours for all future renewals beginning in the 2011 renewal cycle.

Yes, the online coursework must be NBCC approved.  An LPC may obtain 1/2 of the total contact hours via approved on line/home study coursework.
