Treatment Goals:

¡ö Functional Union

¡ö Acceptable Deformity

Coaptation splint

¡ö Temporary to provide initial comfort and

edema reduction

¡ö Mold to counteract deformity

¨C Valgus mold

¡ö High into axilla

¨C Avoid bunching

¡ö Mold over deltoid into neck

¡ö Allow arm to hang

¨C Seated or upright patient

FUNCTIONAL BRACE ¡°SARMIENTO BRACE¡±

¡ö Switch to brace at 1-2 weeks

¡ö Prefabricated

¡ö Frequent re-tightening

¡ö Early elbow ROM

¨C Helps with hydrostatic

pressure

reduction/stabilization
