Interview



Short-listed candidates are invited to an interview day at Cambridge Judge Business School. In exceptional circumstances (for example if it is difficult for you to get a visa at short notice to visit the UK) we are sometimes able to offer interviews in your own country or occasionally by telephone. We do, however, strongly prefer candidates to visit us in Cambridge, as each interview day comprises a full programme of selection and information events, including:

• a group Q&A session with admissions, careers and other key staff

• an individual interview with faculty members

• provision of information about funding your MBA

• a tour of the facilities at Cambridge Judge Business School

• an opportunity to sit in on an MBA class where possible

• coffee and lunch with current MBA students

If we offer you a place on the Cambridge MBA, we will ask (when you accept that place) for a commitment fee of 10% of the course fee and for financial guarantees that you can meet the costs of the programme.

You may need a visa in order to visit us for your interview. Please see our FAQs page for more details, as well as for information on where to stay in Cambridge and how to find us when you come for interview.

Essay #1 (Maximum 500 words): What transferrable skills have you developed that are related to your professional goals outlined above in the Post-MBA Goals short answer? Identify and explain the skills that you will need to develop or enhance. Specifically, how will the Tepper MBA help you achieve these goals?

Essay #2 (Maximum 300 words): Describe a defining moment in your life and explain how it has shaped you as a person.

Essay #3 (Maximum 300 words): How will your presence in the Tepper MBA program benefit your fellow students? How will you contribute to the School as a student and as an alumnus?

Optional Essay (Maximum 500 words): Is there anything else that you think we should know as we evaluate your application? If you believe your credentials and essays represent you fairly, you should not feel obligated to answer this question. This essay is intended to provide a place for you to add information that you think is important but is not covered elsewhere in the application. This could include clarification of your employment or academic record, choice of recommenders or helpful context for the admissions committee in reviewing your application.

GMAT or GRE

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all applicants. A candidate who has taken the GMAT or GRE more than once will self-report the highest score when completing the online application.

TOEFL or IELTS

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required of applicants whose native language is not English.



A minimum score of 600 PBT/250 CBT/100 IBT is required for international students entering the MBA program.

Interview



If you are invited for an interview, you may arrange an on-campus, off-campus or telephone interview with a member of our admissions team. Please note that our admission committee prefers an on-campus interview, if possible.

Short Answer Essays (250 words each)

Please respond to the following two essay prompts:

Presentation/Essay

The Chicago Booth experience will take you deeper into issues, force you to challenge assumptions, and broaden your perspective. In a four-slide presentation or an essay of no more than 600 words, broaden our perspective about who you are. Understanding what we currently know about you from the rest of the application, what else would you like us to know?

We have set forth the following guidelines:

The content is completely up to you. There is no right, or even preferred, approach to this essay. Feel free to use the software you are most comfortable with. Acceptable formats for upload in the online application system are PowerPoint, Word, or PDF. However, we suggest converting your file to a PDF to preserve your intended formatting.

There is a strict maximum of 4 pages (presentation) or 600 words (essay), though you can provide fewer if you choose. The file size is limited to 16 MB. The document will be viewed electronically, but we cannot support hyperlinks, embedded videos, music or motion images. The file will be evaluated on the quality of content and ability to convey your ideas, not on technical expertise or presentation.

Interview



Interviews will be granted on an invitation-only basis after evaluation of a submitted application. Candidates invited to interview will be contacted by the mid-decision date with instructions on how to schedule an interview. A candidate who receives an invitation will have only one interview. Interviews are conducted by admissions staff, students, or alumni. They are held on campus or in a location convenient for the prospective student. All interviews, regardless of who conducts them, receive equal weight in the evaluation process. An interview is required for admission. However, completing an interview does not guarantee admission.

International students who do not have a degree from an institution in which all instruction is conducted in English must take either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the PTE (Pearson Test of English).

Interview



Applicants may be invited to participate in evaluative interviews conducted by alumni or current students. In most cases, interviews are offered in the applicant’s geographic area, and invitations to interview can be sent at any time after a completed application has been received by the Admissions Office. Interviews by Invitation: We send interview invitations throughout each round and offer a variety of options for interviews. We encourage you to visit Ithaca for an interview with admissions staff or second-year MBA student, especially if you have not visited campus before. If you cannot travel to Ithaca, we also offer interviews with alumni or Skype interviews.

On the TOEFL, we require a minimum score of 100 on the Internet-Based Exam or 600 on the Paper-Based exam. On the IELTS, a minimum score band of 7 is required and we also look for a score of 7 on the speaking and writing modules.

Test Scores



GMAT or GRE

The admissions committee takes into consideration your highest test score. The Tuck application allows students to report up to two GMAT and/or GRE test scores. If you have scored better on one test in the verbal section and better on the other in the quantitative section, we will consider your highest quantitative and highest verbal scores.

TOEFL , PTE, or IELTS

Tuck accepts both the TOEFL®, IELTS, and the PTE to demonstrate English proficiency. All nonnative English speakers must self report results (scores and percentiles, if applicable) from either the TOEFL®, IELTS or the PTE Academic.

Interview



No, but they are strongly recommended. Tuck offers all applicants the opportunity to interview on campus in Hanover. Interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, so request an interview as soon as you decide to apply. If you have not been able to interview by the deadline, the admissions committee may invite you to interview if they feel it is necessary. Because we cannot invite all applicants to interview, if you would like to guarantee an interview, you should schedule an on-campus interview. Tuck does not conduct student-initiated interviews off campus.

Essay 1

The 'Team Fuqua' spirit and community is one of the things that sets The Duke MBA experience apart, and it is a concept that extends beyond the student body to include faculty, staff, and administration. When a new person joins the Admissions Team, we ask that person to share with everyone in the office a list of '25 Random Things About Yourself.' As an Admissions team, we already know the new hire’s professional and academic background, so learning these '25 Random Things' helps us get to know someone’s personality, their background, special talents, and more.

In this spirit, the Admissions Committee also wants to get to know you - beyond the professional and academic achievements listed in your resume and transcript. You can share with us important life experiences, your likes/dislikes, hobbies, achievements, fun facts, or anything that helps us understand what makes you who you are. Share with us your list of '25 Random Things' about you.

Please present your response in list form, numbered 1 to 25. Some points may be only a few words, while others may be longer. Your complete list should not exceed 2 pages, with a font size no less than 10-point.

Essay 2

When asked by your family, friends and colleagues why you want to go to Duke, what do you tell them? Share the reasons that are most meaningful to you.

Your response to this essay question should be no more than 2 pages in length, with a font size no less than 10-point. Please respond fully and concisely using 1.5 line spacing.

Optional Essay Question.

If you feel there are extenuating circumstances of which the admissions committee should be aware, please explain them here (e.g. unexplained gaps in work, choice of recommenders, inconsistent or questionable academic performance, significant weakness in your application). Note that you should NOT upload additional essays nor additional recommendations in this area. The Optional Essay is intended to provide the admissions committee with insight into your extenuating circumstances only.

GMAT or GRE

• You must take either the GMAT or GRE (the GMAT is preferred) and have your scores sent directly from the testing service to the admissions office.

• There is no minimum test score requirement.

TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS

All international applicants who did not earn an undergraduate degree from a school whose primary language of instruction is English, must submit a valid TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS score. A minimum of 3 years of attendance at the English instruction school is required.

Interview



All applicants, regardless of the round in which you intend to apply, are eligible to interview during the Open Interview Period. A completed application is not required to interview during the Open Interview Period. Travel to Durham to complete an interview is required for some Early Action applicants (see notice below).

Register: Schedule your interview online for the Open Interview period (not for Invitation-Only Interviews), and if applicable, for your Campus Visit program activities.

If you do not interview in Durham during the Open Interview Period, you will only be able to interview if invited to do so. Invitations are extended based on a thorough evaluation of your completed application. If invited, you will be interviewed in the location that you specified in your application and during the interview period that corresponds to your application round.

Interview



Offered on campus and in select cities around the world, interviews are an important part of the admission process. All students who are admitted to our programs have been interviewed. The admissions interview offers you the opportunity to explain in depth your educational and career experiences to date, and to elaborate on your post-MBA career plans. The interviewer is interested in your professional accomplishments as well as your leadership and community achievements. The interview is similar to a professional job interview, and as such you should dress in business attire and bring an updated copy of your résumé. Interviews last approximately 30 minutes.

Interview



All interviews are conducted by invitation only, at the discretion of the Admissions Board. If invited, however, you must participate in order to complete the application process.

Interviews may be scheduled on campus, in domestic or international hub cities or via Skype. Neither the timing of your interview invitation nor its format, whether in-person or via Skype, implies anything about the status of your application or affects your candidacy.

Interviews are 30 minutes and are conducted by an MBA Admissions Board member who has reviewed your application. Your interview will be tailored to you and is designed for us to learn more about you in the context of a conversation. GMAT or GRE

The minimum GMAT required is 600, with an average of 690 for the Class of 2012.

GRE: We strongly encourage candidates to submit a GRE score in or above the 65th percentile for the quantitative and verbal sections of the GRE.

TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or PTE -

English is the only language required for admission. Non-native English speakers who do not hold a university degree from a university where English is the teaching language must submit test results showing English proficiency. These results must be less than two years old.

Interview



Two interviews

All preselected applicants must be interviewed during the admissions process.

Applicants will be invited to attend two interviews at locations available in more than 100 different countries worldwide. The interviewers are either alumni or members of HEC MBA staff.

The interviews will be conducted in English and will consist of an oral presentation on a subject of your choice (10 minutes) followed by a series of questions and answers concerning your application (30-40 minutes).

A member of the admissions committee will take this time to get to know you and develop a better understanding of your career progression and key achievements.

Impromptu presentation

When you arrive, we give you a business topic on which to prepare a five minute presentation to demonstrate, amongst other things, your communication and presentation skills.

Case study

A professor leads a mini case study with other candidates, to give you a feel for our teaching methods and us a feel for how you contribute in this kind of setting. 

MBA class observation

If possible, you will sit in and observe our MBAs in the auditorium. This helps you to assess us and our teaching style, just as we will be assessing you and your potential.

Lunch with MBAs

Talk to our current participants and ask them any questions you have about their experiences.

Following your assessment, the admissions committee reviews your candidacy and compares it to others. Normally, we will confirm if you have been selected for the following year's class within two weeks of your interview.

You can take the GMAT up until a week before the application deadline, in this case a copy of your unofficial score report (to be uploaded as supporting document once you have submitted your application form) is sufficient for us to begin evaluating your file. In such cases where applicants have taken both the GRE and the GMAT, they must report both scores as part of the application.

TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, PTE or CPE

We accept TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, PTE Academic, and the Certificate of Proficiency in English test. As with the GMAT, a copy of your score report is sufficient for us to begin evaluating your file. Your original test score report will only be required later on during the evaluation process.

The interview provides the Admissions Committee with more information about you. It is not an indication of the outcome of your application. Interviews are typically conducted by members of the Alumni Admissions Committee or by members of our Admissions Student Committee. Interviews may be conducted on or off campus, by Skype, or, in rare circumstances, by telephone.

Essay Questions



Put your full name and the question being answered at the top of each page, and use at least 11 point font and 1.5 line spacing.

1. Introduce yourself to your future Ross classmates in 100 words or less.

2. Describe your career goals. How will an MBA from Ross help you to achieve those goals? Describe your career goals. How will an MBA from Ross help you to achieve those goals? What is your vision for how you can make a unique contribution to the Ross community? (500 word maximum)

3. Describe a time in your career when you were frustrated or disappointed. What did you learn from that experience? (500 word maximum)

4. Select one of the following questions:

- What are you most passionate about? (300 word maximum)

- Describe a personal challenge or obstacle and why you view it as such. How have you dealt with it? What have you learned from it? (300 word maximum)

Optional Question

Is there anything else you think the Admissions Committee should know about you to evaluate your candidacy? (500 word maximum)

Evaluative Questions

1. Please comment on the context of your interaction with the applicant. If applicable, briefly describe the applicant's role in your organization.

2. How does the candidate's performance compare to other well qualified individuals in similar roles?

3. Please describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant's response (more recent examples preferred).

4. Please make additional statements about the applicant's performance, potential, or personal qualities you believe would be helpful to the Admissions Committee.

Test Scores



GMAT or GRE

You should arrange for your GMAT or GRE scores to be reported to us directly. If available, we encourage you to include an unofficial score report with your application. If you take the GMAT or GRE more than once, we will use the highest total score in our evaluation of your application, not the average of two or more tests.

TOEFL or IELTS

If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate competence in English with a score of 100 or higher on the Internet-based version of the TOEFL, or a score of 7 or higher on the IELTS.Paper-based TOEFL scores will not be accepted.

Interview



Interviews will be scheduled by the Global MBA Program office and are typically scheduled within two weeks of application submission.

We are interested in learning more about you and how you work, think, and act. For each essay, please provide a brief overview of the situation followed by a detailed description of your response. For essay 2 only, limit the experiences you discuss to those which have occurred in the past three years.

In each of the essays please describe in detail what you thought, felt, said, and did.

Essay 1: The mission of the MIT Sloan School of Management is to develop principled, innovative leaders who improve the world and generate ideas that advance management practice. Please discuss how you will contribute toward advancing the mission based on examples of past work and activities.(500 words or fewer, limited to one page)

Test Scores



GMAT or GRE, TOEFL not required

The GMAT or GRE score is required of all applicants and must be taken before submitting your application. Only tests taken after June 1, 2009 will be considered. We require that the official GMAT or GRE scores be sent to us by the application deadline. We understand that sometimes it takes 1-2 weeks for the test centers to release the scores. Therefore, it is acceptable if we receive the scores shortly after the application deadline. The TOEFL or IELTS is not required for MBA or LGO applicants, but we provide a space in the online application if you wish to report either of these scores to us.

Interview



Interviews are by invitation only. Our goal is to interview all candidates accepted into our programs. An invitation to interview thus signals that your application has reached an advanced stage of consideration, but does not guarantee admission.

Candidates will be invited to interviews by email up until the decision deadlines.

For planning purposes (interviews, visas, etc.), we strongly encourage international applicants to apply by the November 15th deadline.

Applicants who are invited to interview will receive a decision within three weeks of the interview date. All decisions will be announced by early April 2014.

Specifically, please indicate how your objectives fit with the purposes of the MIT Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership and indicate what you would contribute to the Sloan Fellows community. Please describe the single most significant contribution or accomplishment that you have made to your organization that demonstrates your leadership abilities. (500 words or less, limited to one page)

Discuss a seminal experience or event in your life that has significantly defined who you are today. (500 words or less, limited to one page)

Recommendation Questions

The reference letters that are most helpful to the applicant are those that address the topics listed below and point to actual observations of the candidate's actions.

Test Scores



Academic requirements and the GMAT/GRE

College transcripts must verify your successful completion--"B" or better--of a university level course in algebra or in a more advanced math, or in another discipline that requires the use of algebra, such as microeconomics. If you have not completed a course that clearly meets this requirement, you must complete the GMAT or GRE exam.

If you wish us to consider an alternative course as a substitute for the GMAT/GRE exam, you must send us a copy of the course syllabus or schedule and/or a link to the course description on the university website, if available. This should be done as soon as possible, so that you will still have time to take the exam if the course does not satisfy the requirement. English proficiency

TOEFL or IELTS

If your native language is not English, you must demonstrate proficiency by taking either TOEFL or IELTS. Candidates who have attended an academic program conducted in English for more than one year are not required to take the TOEFL / IELTS.

We expect a score 100 or better on the Internet-based format or 250 or better on the paper-based format. We expect a score 7.5 or better on the IELTS.

Interview



The next step in the process—an in-depth, in-person interview—is by invitation only. Although an interview invitation does not guarantee admission, it does indicate that your application has reached an advanced stage of consideration. Interview invitations will be sent via email.
