Central A&M Community Unit District 21Regular MeetingOctober 26, 2017The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of the Central A&M Community Unit District #21 in the counties of Shelby, Christian and Macon counties, Illinois was duly called and held on the 26th day of October, 2017 at the Central A&M High School, within the boundaries of the district.Board President Josh Burgener called the meeting to order at 5:45 pm, and Secretary Tim Dowd called the roll. All had a very good time catching fish, making bird houses and doing the GPS scavenger hunt.FAMILY READING NIGHT: Family Reading night will be at Bond on November 9th, the movie Toy Story will start at 6:00.TOBY TIRE: Toby Tire, a safety program by the state department of transportation will be presented to Bond students on November 20th. IRTA: Illinois Retired Teachers Association awarded a $500 grant to Gregory to be used for science experiments with the high school science classes. Melissa Dolan, Cinda Villanueva, Jenn Hardimon and Marcia Berg all wrote the grant and will work together to have a Science day for the Gregory students. BOND CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: Bond Christmas music program will be December 5th at the Middle School at 6:30.FIRE DRILLS: Fire drills with the fire department at Bond and Gregory were conducted on October 19th. The fireman stayed after the drill to talk to Bond students about fire safety. Gregory students had two firemen come to school on October 13th to talk to them about fire safety.RECYCLING: Christian County Waste Management came to Bond and Gregory the week of October 16th to talk about recycling products and how to reuse everyday products. The fifth grade went to the landfill on October 20 to see how waste is processed.MIDDLE SCHOOLTECH TEAM: First Lego League informational meeting was held on Monday 10-23-17. Students who were interested in joining the FLL team came to hear about requirements and expectations. The robot and kit have arrived. Mr. Garner is building the team a regulation table. Practices will start in the next week. CAT sponsored our program this year, and we are enrolled to compete at the area state competition in December. FLEX EXPLORATION: On October 11th, Ed Cross, formerly with WAND and now with the Department of Natural Resources visited Central A&M Middle School. Mr. Cross not only talked about what he is currently doing with the DNR, but also about how his past job experiences had helped prepare him for his career now. He also spoke about the different sections of the DNR, as well as, how he was a local, small town boy who worked hard to accomplish what he wanted in life. He told the students that if they work hard toward a goal, and put forth their best effort, they will accomplish it.On October 4th, Students walked to Koehl Brothers/Napa to learn about their business. It was really interesting as students learned that this local business is actually involved in 5 different businesses! They also learned about customer service & will be returning soon to get a tour of the automotive service & repair side. The students especially enjoyed the free GSI tumbler and NAPA hat they were given!ASSEMBLY: October 4th, students attended a powerful assembly when Bobby Petrocelli visited Raider Nation to share his story and an inspirational message to our Raiders. Mr. Petrocelli lost his wife when a drunk driver drove his truck through their bedroom. However, Mr. Petrocelli's message centered on the powerful ideas that we hope all of our Raiders take into the future: 1. You Matter. 2. You Are Worth It. 3. Life can drastically change in 10 seconds; be prepared to Make Good Choices.?ONE SCHOOL, ONE BOOK: CAMP provided the funds to sponsor each student and teacher with a copy of WONDER by RJ Palacio! Congratulations to Elsie Rund and Bailey McDermith, the winners of the Wonder Poster Contest!SPORTS NEWS: Girls basketball is in full swing, and the ladies are improving every week. The next home game is Tuesday, October 31st against Sullivan. Boys basketball kicks off with the 7th grade playing in the Pana Tournament on Saturday, October 28th. STUDENT COUNCIL : Trick or Treat took place on October 20th, our students were able to walk the streets of Assumption and Moweaqua to collect donations of canned goods for our community food pantries. Following this fun event, students were treated to a Raider Football Tailgate. Many donations were provided by the Moweaqua Food Pantry and the Ministerial Alliance. Thank you to Pastor Jack and Pastor Rod for helping set up and grill the food. Thank you to Ed Broaddus for organizing donations. There were many parents who chipped in to chaperone and drive trucks to pick up donations.Student Council sponsored a Box Tops competition between the grades. These box tops will be given to the grade schools. RAIDERS OF THE MONTH:6th – Ivy Lynch & Hayden Sams7th – Lily Price & Tucker Long8th – Kinzi Ater & Chase MorganFACULTY UPDATES: Jacob Elam turned in his letter of resignation as Middle School Musical Director effective Monday, November 13, 2017.Heidi House will not be released to return to her 6th Grade Language Arts position until August of 2018. She and her son, Rueger, are improving every day. Staff evaluations are under way for the year. CUSTODIAL REPORT: Mr. Garner is busy with some repairs around the building, as well as preparing for the Life Safety Inspection. The banners have been put up in the gym, they look great! There will be a few changes before they are completed. UPCOMING EVENTS: CAMP is sponsoring a Halloween Dance on October 27th. Assumption Fest is sponsoring Monster Bash in the Middle School Gym on Sunday, October 29th. Parent/Teacher Conferences are being scheduled for October 30th-November 3rd. November 4th 30 students and about 10 parents will be heading to Chicago to see the Chicago Bulls Experience, this trip was earned through the Middle School fundraiser. November 8th is the Annual Senior Citizens DinnerNovember 10th is our Veteran’s Day AssemblyNovember 11-12th the Middle School will present “Beauty and the Beast Junior” the annual musical. HIGH SCHOOLPink Week and Homecoming Week have come and gone as Central A&M High School closes in on 25 percent of the school year. Students had a spirit-filled Homecoming Week with the country theme. The Student Council had a lot of nice ideas for dress-up days. We had a night-time parade – a few glitches, but overall a nice experience. The parade was Thursday night, followed by the community pep rally and bonfire. There appeared to be good attendance from the community. The Raiders won the Homecoming football game, and the dance was a success!Here are a few other notes from the High School:Central A&M FFA Members Izac Virden, Brandon Escobedo, Dane Washburn, Madison Thompson, Ella Forlines and Hunter Mott attended the University of Illinois Greenhand Conference in late September.Driver Education classes had speakers, including Chief Rob Maynard of Moweaqua Police, Chief Brian Wade of Assumption Police and Christian County Lt. Scott Woods and Jack Huddleston from Operation Lifesaver. The topics addressed were driver safety, safety around trains, and distracted driving.I was very proud of our Raiders, who wore green in support of Mattoon High School after the shooting at that school.Proud of these Students of the Month for August-September. Students learned a teamwork exercise by playing Blindfolded Ninja Noodle.Central A&M High School just may have its own future professional fishermen! Freshmen Eric Paradee and Ross Sloan hauled in 14.55 pounds of bass today at Clinton Lake. Not only did Eric and Ross win the day, the duo took home the top prize for the three-weekend tournament. They gave up part of their long weekend to learn about FFA and leadership. Dane Washburn, Ella Forlines, Izac Virden and Hunter Mott.Central A&M FFA had a great day judging soil, despite the rain! The team placed 2nd overall with three members being in the top 10! Congratulations to Brett Zindel for placing 2nd overall,?Tyler Horton?placed 8th overall and? Other team members were?Drew Guebert, Jodie Smith, Colton Hubner, and?Mallory Burgener.Junior Austin Sloan and freshman Eric Paradee competed in the Bass Pro Shops FLW series Oct. 8 at Lake Springfield. Though getting only one keeper each, the boys gained experience to try for the national series again next year.Jake Romano of Herff Jones discussed a variety of items with the Freshmen Class of 2021 Oct. 10. These Raiders have the chance to order class rings and letter jackets.Congratulations to the Ag Sales Team #1 for placing 3rd at the Section 16 Ag Sales CDE held this Oct. 11 at Sullivan High School! Team members were Tyler McLain, Erin Forlines, Mallory Burgener, and Jodie Smith. Tyler McLain was the 3rd place individual overall! Team 2 did a great job too and was made up of Hunter Mott, Alyssa Nichols, Jacob Nash, and Hailey Wilson. Hunter Mott was the top individual on the team. Great job to everyone!On Monday, Oct. 9 (Columbus Day), while most students slept in, 7 CAM Band and Choir students were awake before the sunrise and traveled to Effingham for the ILMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association) District 5 auditions. These students had been preparing since the beginning of the school year and sang or played their music for a judge. Based on their audition score, the top musicians would be selected for the ILMEA District 5 Festival, which will be held on Saturday, November 18. The seven students who auditioned from Central A&M were Aubrey Adrian, Angelina Ariazi, Nashlynn Mathias, Alaina Morse, Isaac Nidiffer, Aden Sanders, and Madison Warnick.On Oct. 11, ILMEA released the results from the audition. Angelina Ariazi will represent the CAM HS Band at the festival and Nashlynn Mathias, Alaina Morse, & Isaac Nidiffer will represent the CAM HS Choir. Mr. Elam and Mr. Parker would like to say good work to all students who auditioned and congratulations to those who made it to the Festival!The Running Raiders took to Wemple Park for a CIC XC showdown Oct. 12. The girls took 3rd with 3 finishing in the top 20. Aubrey Adrian was 14th as Nashlynn Mathias and Erin Forlines went 18 and 19. The boys had Brandon Black finishing in the top 20 at 17th. Over half of the Raiders saw PRs as they competed in the conference competition. It was the Raiders’ best overall team showing of the season. Season PR runners were Aubrey Adrian, Blake Schinzler, and Lucas McElroy. Career PRs were accomplished by Trinity Hilton, Nashlynn Mathias, and Brandon Black. Congratulations Raiders! Central A&M competes in the IHSA Regional on Saturday in Shelbyville.Volleyball Senior Night was an overwhelming success for the volleyball Lady Raiders on Oct. 12! Central A&M defeated Sullivan, 25-11, 25-14 to claim the Central Illinois Conference match. JV also won in two games. However, the night belonged to the Lady Raider seniors, who left the home court the winners they are. Congratulations to Briona, Calista, Peyton, Taryn and Kenzie.?The Lady Raiders compete in the IHSA Regional at Shelbyville on Oct. 23 vs. Vandalia.Proud of these two Raiders. Heartland Tech awards Students of the Quarter, and two Raiders were selected. Congrats to senior Brooke Friesner (Graphic Arts) and junior Ian Manley (Cosmetology). Well Done Brooke and Ian.?Senior Night celebration was Oct. 20 at Central A&M High School. Seniors and parents from football, cheer, band, poms, chorus and cross country were honored, followed by the last regular-season football game of the year vs. Warrensburg-Latham. Central A&M football should make a return to the playoffs and will find out their opponents on Saturday, Oct. 21.KEMMERER VILLAGE SCHOOLDCFS: 13School: 17Students finished the soccer season and are now playing volleyball. First game will be coming up soon.We have finished the 1st quarter of the school year. Report card grades are posted and IEP’s updated. It is hard to believe the 1st quarter has already ended.Our 1st quarter attendance incentive trip was held on October 27, 2017. The plan is to take the kids to Taylorville Cinema. I am not sure how many will be attending or what movie we will see at this time.Halloween Extravaganza will be held at Kemmerer on October 30, 2017. We now have 7 students attending the in town classroom. All of the students are also mainstreamed into at least 1 general education class. So far it seems to be going very well.
