Lady Raiders Track & Field

[pic][pic]

Welcome to The Bolingbrook Lady Raiders Track & Field program. It is a pleasure to have you on board and hopefully you’re willing to make necessary sacrifices to be a successful student athlete. Please read and understand the information provided below.

Things you need to know:

1. You must complete on-line participation form, submit IHSA physical form before first day of practice, Tuesday January 20th. The $125 participation fee must be paid in full before first competition for indoor season, Tuesday February 10th.

2. You will practice and compete in track & field for 16 weeks (13 wks for individuals not competing in conf, sectionals, state) so take care of your mind , emotions and your body (Have self confidence in yourself and your abilities; regardless of who you’re facing).

3. Everyone will compete but everyone will not compete in the same number of events/meets. (some of you may compete on the varsity/frosh-soph level and you may not compete in all of your preferred or dominate events).

4. *If you have a problem/issue relating to track and field or not, come to one of the coaches FIRST, ASAP (As Soon As Possible)! Some of you have situations going on at home that’s affecting your outlook on life; we get it! But if you decide to stay on this team you must meet our expectations and exceed yours (go beyond your personal goals).

Things we ask of you:

1. Be here because you want to be here (don’t come to this program because your friends are here, because seasonal expectations/goals might be different).

2. Come mentally prepared (work on self-motivational skills).

3. Be dedicated and honest (take pride in the work you put in and know that it takes time to be successful).

4. Be responsible for your actions because your team, family and friends are counting on you (*be careful with the people you hang with b/c your friends are a reflection of you).

5. Support and respect yourself, your teammates, your coaches and your family (during the season no homework during meets. If you’re not competing you will support fellow teammates who are warming up to compete. That also means that you won’t “hang out” with family friends. We need to support each other beyond the 4x400).

6. Leave any place cleaner than you found it.

What do you want:

1. Success: What defines success for you (metals, placing, PR, winning, self-esteem by commitment/beating the odds).

2. *Understand the objectives to reach your goals (could also be personal): Objectives vs. Goals.

3. Scholarship: Student-athlete?

Team Rules

1. Respect and have pride in yourself because you are representing yourself, your family, your school and your coaches.

2. Be at practice and meets On Time and prepared.

3. If you are unable to make it to practice and you know ahead of time, you or your parent/guardian must call or e-mail one of the coaches immediately. Please let one of the coaches know you will be missing practice the day before and not the day you return. You will have an unexcused absence if you don’t call the coaches ahead of time*.

4. Three unexcused absences and you will be dismissed from the team. Excused absences= sick from school, funeral, on/at a school related obligation that was previously scheduled, retakes/after school tutoring. THAT’S IT!!! If you’re working a full/part-time you must provide me with a schedule. See Coach Birmingham to discuss further expectations.

5. If you are coming to practice late, you must have a pass. No pass = 1 tardy; and 3 tardies =1 unexcused absence. 3 unexcused absences and you’re dismissed from the team.

6. To prevent injury you must practice one full week (5) days before competing in your first meet.

7. Maintain good grades (2.9 G.P.A or >) and stay focused in your classes so you don’t have to miss practice. If you have two ‘D’s’ or an ‘F’ in your Core classes you must go to tutoring in room E128 on Monday’s & Thursday’s until 3:30pm. You are eligible to participate in the meets if you’re passing five of your classes. *Any type of misbehavior during tutoring is cause for you to not participate in a meet. Also, if you want to study with your teacher in whose class you’re earning a failing grade and not in study hall, you must check in to study hall first before staying with the designated teacher. Don’t abuse the system!

8. If you use technology such as the internet (facebook, instagram e-mail, twitter, snap chat, vine, , etc) and/or cell phone to verbally or symbolically (using symbols to replace words to deliver a message) to intimidate, harass or bully another student, teacher or person you will be dismissed from the team.

9. Respect your Leaders.

Quitters

If you quit the team and don’t turn in your uniform, your account will be charged the price of the uniform.

Our Theme

To be discussed in Part 2 of our meeting, which is after the SWSC (Southwest Suburban Conference) indoor championship meets.

Goal vs Objectives

Goal: Planned result/destination.

Objective: Planned strategies to achieve goal(s). Must progress from various skill levels to successfully achieve your goal(s).

If you dedicate yourself to your craft, especially on the days you don’t want to train, you will become better both physically and mentally in everything you do.

Expectations and Limitations: Stop expecting so much when you only put-in and accept small gains. In order to go beyond your adaptational window you must go beyond your mental/physical comfort zone; which will be painful but rewarding!

Please keep the following items in mind

We (coaches) Care! We know that you have obligations/situations going on in your personal life, but be mindful of your behavior and the people you hang with.

You are representing Bolingbrook, which is a privilege and Not a Right. You are doing something that few people get the chance to do. With that said you are expected to:

Respect your teammates, coaches and staff.

Practice with Integrity

Prepare to give your best mentally and physically at practice and at the meets.

Be outstanding as a student and individually

Your first impression might be your last impression. Make it a good one.

Communicate with your coaches and teammates.

Have an open mind and be coach-able.

Never be content.

Represent The Brook proudly on and off the track.

*Understand that if you don’t adhere to our rules you will be dismissed from the team
