This week my sister-in-law shared a funny video with my wife and I about a mom with her son on day 1 of quarantine vs. day 30 of quarantine. On day 1 the son asks the mom what is for dinner, to which the mom hugs her son, replying “What would you like, sweetheart?” Then it switches to day 30. The son enters the room, beginning to ask what is for dinner. Before he can finish the question, the mom, without looking up, pushes him out of the room, clearly annoyed. The video is of course meant to be funny and get a laugh, but it got me thinking: Do we ever get like that? Do we lose sight of the little moments in our everyday life that present themselves as opportunities to give service to our family and others around us? I think it is a good question to ponder. During this week’s lesson we read in Mosiah 2:17 which says: And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn? HYPERLINK "" \l "note17a" awisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the? HYPERLINK "" \l "note17c" cfellow?beings?ye are only in the service of your God.I also enjoyed the video “The Old Shoemaker” that taught this same principle: are in a unique time right now. It feels like the world has been turned upside down. Many of us are working from home or have had our work situations change altogether. Our kids are home from school, separated from their friends and routines. Isolation is a common feeling we all share right now. It is difficult, but I know that the Lord is aware of each one of us. He is providing many opportunities each day to reach out and serve each other. Most importantly, he has provided an amazing opportunity for us to serve our families. I pray we may take the time to seek the Lord’s guidance, to prepare ourselves to recognize opportunities to do good. I know that as we study the scriptures, live the commandments and strive to follow our Savior’s example we will be in a “blessed and happy state”. And I know that as we serve those around us, we are serving our God.I know that God lives. I know Jesus Christ is our Savior.May the Lord bless all of us in our efforts to see the good we can do and are doing.--Brother Thomas ................
